Re: Smoothie Blender
I have a Vitamix but if you're just making smoothies it's probably overkill. I guess it depends what you want to put in it though. Seems to me it will shred most anything. How about an immersion blender? My Bamix is on its way. It's a great immersion blender and can definitely make smoothies but pro...

Re: Winter Fitness Option
We have a huge municipal aquatic facility here in Washington, DC. It houses an olympic sized swimming pool (50m), a very large whirlpool/spa, a kiddie pool and also a water fitness/leisure pool. Sometimes I think the water is over chlorinated but after I spray myself with a little vitamin-c dissolve...

Re: Hair dressings, a couple questions.
I recently purchased Admiral pomade. I've used it 3x so far and I like it. I might switch from Grant's to this but I'm not sure yet. Either way, it's a winner. Texture wise it's a smooth and somewhat thick gel-like pomade. It's not gummy, rubbery, super firm, or heavy like some of the other water-ba...

Re: Hair dressings, a couple questions.
I'm a big fan of Grant's Golden Brand. I also have his medium-hold with the "Royal Hawaiian" scent. It's nice as well but I think the original with the almond scent is the best for my hair. Uppercut is a great choice but the scent is a little stronger than Grant's in my opinion. I prefer t...

1175512_10201328706075752_615621362_n.jpg I was hoping to ride either my ICE Sprint or my Brompton today or tomorrow but it's been raining for the last two days. I put in 28 miles on some country roads last weekend. The trike is fun but I only ride on country roads, highways with large shoulders an...

Flashman: A Novel George MacDonald Fraser I might try to read Black Ajax again but the language was difficult. I don't remember the glossary being 100% helpful. Either way, The Dictionary of Vulgar Tongue helped a bit. I might need another dictionary of slang as well. This book is well worth it.

Re: What are you reading?
I put Shantaram (in e-book format) on hold at the library and now it's available - sooner than I expected.
I can't wait to get my new Kindle Paperwhite. Hopefully it will ship on time because I'd like to take it with me when I go bike camping later in October.

A acquaintance of mine has one of these. I haven't seen it in action but a good friend has cooked a variety of meats on the grill. As you know you can really crank up the heat on most infrared grills. Maybe 1500-1800 degrees? My friend was using long tongs while searing lamb chops on the grill and jo...

I haven't posted here in years. However, I tried the Feather Nanka Gel several years ago. For the most part, I agree with the review and I think it's nice for a gel. It provides lots of cushion and a decent amount of slickness. I found that it was somewhat sticky and tended to clog my razors. I've t...

When I think of summer shoes I think of spectators... but they probably would look kind of odd with shorts. And they might not be the best choice for the office.

I will follow up with the recommendation of finding a good trainer to help you get started. You might want to speak with an RD as well. Having your diet lined up with your exercise routine is essential. You might wind up eating 5-6x small meals a day like me, but hey, whatever works. Edit: I just sa...

Dax Vegetable Oil shampoo (or another vegetable oil based shampoo or even plain old olive oil) will remove buildup from Murray's pomade. As an alternative there is the water soluble version of Sweet Georgia Brown and some of you be interested in a product called Layrite which is available from Hawle...
