Gary, have you tried Euro Palmolive? I find it to be wonderful; a rich, creamy torrent of shaving bliss. If not for the Almighty Fat, it would be my favorite soap, edging out my DR Harris Almond.

I so much love hyperbole.....

I'm one who detests the scent. Several months ago, I purchased a nice, fresh container to try. After a few uses, I threw it in the trash, though I kept the nifty red container. To me, Cella has the consistency and scent of rancid lard, an absolute stomach-turner. AOS is better, though, to me, it has...

Though I enjoy having a sprawling stable of items acquired over the last several years, my days of random experimentation are largely past. Since my remaining shaving days are finite, I now use only those products which I enjoy most. Unfortunately, my disorder is of the hoarding variety, and I still...

Yes, the iKon Open Comb Deluxe gives me better shaves than any razor I've used. I've tried many, and still own more than one hundred. Mine is #07 with the Bulldog handle. The iKon beats my previous favorite, the English NEW, by a significant margin. It hits the smooth/aggressive sweet spot, deliveri...

I'm in the Sierra Northeast of you, KAV, and your weather has arrived here as well. Heavy snow in Tahoe, Mt. Rose highway closed, and the Truckee River lapping at its banks.

The skiers are loving it....

The Super Iridium, in my opinion, is without equal. I agree that the 7 O'Clock Yellow is about as close as you are likely to get with current production blades. I find the St. Pete-produced Perma Sharps sold in Turkey to be very nice as well, similar to the Yellows.

Mark, I think that you're lucky. It took me a couple of years of experimentation to stumble upon my favorite vintage shaver, the three-piece English NEW. From your description, I suspect that your 7 O'Clock razor is a rebranded English NEW. The beauty of three-piece razors is that their handles are ...

Rick, Yes, the Light Brigade era Wilkinson's are wonderful blades. It's interesting, though, how people's experiences with blades differ. When zeroing in on my favorites a couple of years ago, I had settled on three; Light Brigades (thanks Rich!), Swedes (the real Oslo variety), and the newly-reveal...

Guys, At the risk of being a bit controversial, I'm perplexed. Why the proliferation of beards by members of a shaving forum? At about the same time that I began to use a DE, I started to shave my head, and have come to look forward to the extended pleasure of a daily full face and head shave. For m...

Yes, any will work, and it largely comes down to face-feel. My favorite is the Omega 05 boar and its variants. In rummaging through my neglected badger-brush stash this week, I came across my Kent BK4. A brush which is often overlooked these days, I was not enamored of it on the first go around. Upo...

Sean, MWF is my favorite, but AOS is very nice as well. For lather that explodes off the puck, it's hard to beat AOS. However, I find that the MWF shave is just a bit better for me, with a pleasant scent, wonderful skin-moisturizing properties and producing the closest, most comfortable shave of all...

In my experience, it's more about the head geometry than whether its TTO or three-piece. My favorite shavers happen to be three-piece - your iKon OC Deluxe and Gillette English NEW's. However, I think that head geometry drives the performance. For me, the TTO which comes closest to the Deluxe/NEW in...

When I began using DE's several years ago, 40's-type Gillette Superspeeds were all the rage, fostered in large part by Gordon's recommendation and broadcast across the web by Corey Greenburg. I continue to be an admirer of the Gillette TTO's. They are wonderful gadgets, with watch-like mechanisms of...

Yes, my kit has become so predictable that I've given up on SOTD posts. My thinking is that, with a finite number of shaves yet to be performed, I prefer to use only my very favorite shaving tools. Three years of experimentation have taught me what they are, and I hate to burden the group with a rec...

Marc, I believe you mentioned that your iKon was one of the originals, known as being ultra-aggressive. The 2010 Open Comb Deluxe iKon, for me, hits the absolute sweet spot for comfort and effectiveness. Try one, and, like me, you may be astonished.

I guess that I should weigh in with a favorable word for Omegas. I agree that the 31052 is a bit wet-noodlish, given it's treated bristles and rather high (60mm) loft. I prefer my three Semogues (1250, 2000, SOC) to the 31052. However, though Semogues are currently the rage among boargeeks, my favor...

I recently purchased a fresh tub of Cella to give it a whirl. As with Chris, I found the rancid scent to be absolutely appalling, so I tossed it. I did keep the cool red tub, though.

The endorsements of P160 are encouraging. Think I'll give it a try.
