Re: PAA Prismatic DE Razor
The razor being reviewed: https://phoenixartisanaccoutrements.com/products/the-phoenix-prismatic-safety-razor-a-modern-take-on-a-classic-nickel-plated I received mine rapidly from the co. just in time for an AM shave. First, it is well made and I saw no blatant flaws and the nickel finish is good. I...

Re: PAA Prismatic DE Razor
Murray, I do almost all my shaving with some form of Gillette Tech or a Schick Krona DE razor as for me they are just perfect. On a whim, I did however order this new PAA razor as it intrigues me and I really like that PAA is cutting their own path and not merely copying the Merkur/EJ DE89 he...

I cannot tell any difference between vintage Aqua Velva & new. Regarding Old Spice yes, it has been reformulated and is far too sweet now.Ouchmychin wrote:and the original Aqua Velva in the glass bottle. I am avoiding even using them because when they're gone they're gone.

Re: Dollar General DE Blades made in Vietnam
Being a Dorco blade they are merely average IMO. I've used a couple, but won't do so again. You know, you can pack all the DE blades you want in a checked luggage bag, just not a carry on. If staying longer just mail yourself a pckg. with your stuff ahead of time. People do this all the time legally...

Re: Cold River Soap Works
After using this a few times I am still of the opinion that it is definitely top tier, but the tub is diminishing far more rapidly than any soap I have used and that's not even been ten shaves!! Yes, I "bloom" my shave soaps while I shower, but never have I had one disappear this q...

Re: Italian Barber Tech Clone
I measured the blade gap with feeler gauges on the Teck II and was shocked. The blade gap is a whopping 0.045!! However, they neutered it with very little blade exposure. As a benchmark, a pre-war USA Gillette Tech measures right at 0.024" gap which is the same measurement I got for the RazoRoc...

Re: Mike's Natural Soaps
I bloom the soap with hot water on top & leave at the sink while I shower. When I exit to shave I dump off the water on the soap and thoroughly rinse my synthetic brush under the hot water faucet before lathering. That way the lather is hotter.

Re: Harrys Razor vs. Dollar shave club
Dollar Shave Club are crappy Dorco blades from Korea & Harry's are made in Germany by the old Croma factory bought by two young American venture capitalists leveraged to the teeth. Neither can touch a Gillette blade from all I know who used one. It's all smoke & mirrors based on funny TV com...

Sorry to hear that Tucker as for me the Platinum Plus is simply a stellar blade & easily in my top 5. Just out of curiosity, what's your prep technique in detail?

Re: Italian Barber Tech Clone
OK, today I screwed an original "fat handle" from a Tech onto the head. For one, I don't like really heavy handles as they seem more error prone for my hand. I noticed a difference in that the razor handled more nimbly obviously. It is buttery smooth this razor head and to be frank, somewh...

Re: Italian Barber Tech Clone
Well, I had my second shave with the Razorock Teck II this AM. I lathered up with J.M. Fraser's Original and my Fine 20mm Angel Hair Synthetic Brush. The razor performed flawlessly on my 24 hour stubble. The head puts quite a curve on the blade compared to any Gillette Tech that I've seen. It navig...

Re: Italian Barber Tech Clone
Well I had a go with the Razorock Teck II with my favorite blade, a Polsivler SI. I used a Razorock 22mm Synthetic Brush and their P.160 Soft Italian Shaving Soap which is very similar to Cella with a lighter scent. The Teck II head looks somewhat reminiscent of a later Gillette Tech, but this is a...
