Re: Artisan Makers Making only Italian Style Soft-Soaps

I suspect both artisan makers and larger manufacturers do more soft soaps for the same reason: cost. An artison can pour a measured amount of hot liquid mix into a retail container and allow it to cool. A white tub of Proraso I used this summer had the same look when I first opened it as a fresh tub...

As they used to say on Monty Python: "And now for something completely different.": http://sharpologist.com/2016/01/dorco-pl-602.html All plastic, two piece that I've been using for the past two weeks. Not sure when I'll go to another razor. That said, I've preferred the feel and glide of ...

Re: Horse Hair vs. Boar Hair

Earlier this year the local Target store was showing the Cremo horse hair brush by Vie-Long on its shelves. I had a chance to examine one up close, and it felt nice, but the price was more than I could get a Vie-Long 12705 for online. This week on visiting Target, I noticed the Cremo brush had disap...

Re: Italian Barber Acquatico shaving soap

I ordered some because it's one of the few IT recipes with some tallow in it, also the mild fragrance. It's nice, but in these warm summer months I've really been enjoying a tub of Proraso green, latest forumula, that came in the same order.

Re: NOS Colgate Barber Soap

Where can I get one Well Greg, that's exactly what I said too. The top two most likely sources, as you probably already know, are the shaving forums and ebay. It might require a lot of patience, or we might get lucky right off the bat. The Colgate Cup Soap and vintage Williams are still there on eB...

Re: Question for you old farts and retirees?

When I was working, used cheap disposables, and tried to squeeze shaving in to a busy schedule any time I could Since retirement I've had time to polish my DE skills and get closer shaves that last longer. Can't stand the way my beard gets beyond 48 hours, so I wind up shaving about five times a week.

Inexpensive, effective, and readily available. I recommend for newbies not able to make the dive into vintage razors and blades as a great jumping off point. Love Bic Sensitives. I've said it before and will say it again -- best doggone TSA-approved travel razor by miles. Have you tried the Gillett...

Re: Gillette Platinum-Plus blade from Brazil

Damn Walgreen's raised the price a buck!! Now $6.99 for nine blades!! :x But they've lowered the price of their "Studio 35" Israeli Personnas to $5.49 for ten! That's still more than what I can get the same Israeli Personnas on a Kroger card for, $2.39, and the Kroger store is closer than...

Re: Gillette Platinum-Plus blade from Brazil

I'm not sure how long the BPP blades hold their edge but they deliver a remarkably close and smooth shave. It's a pleasure to use them. Finally found some at a Walgreens several miles from here, but not at the closest one, within bicycling distance. Looks like a nice blade, but I have some Shark SS...

Isn't that an EJ razor they're showing in the pics? Or could it be the knockoff they plan to sell at AoS stores?
Perhaps a re-badged EJ razor?

Re: Are we there yet?

After eight years of practice and still refining technique, I can say I'm past the discovery stage. That is except for going through "discovery" while being deposed by an ambulance chaser a few years ago. I did, however, find a new combo this past week that made for a nice quickie touch-up...

Re: Gillette, what are the true innovations

Try the Gillette Guard made in India. Far better IMO: http://www.italianbarber.com/products/gillette-guard-cartridge-razor-with-5-cartridge-blades The per blade cost of the Guard is about $1.20, or twice what the Brazilian Gillette DE blades go for at Walgreens. And, that's 1200% more than the 10¢ ...

Re: Gillette, what are the true innovations

...In recent times Gillette has perfected the plastic disposable too... Bic in France invented the modern disposable in 1971. Gillette didn't have one (Good News) until 1976, five years later. And after eight years of practice w. a DE, the Bic Sensitive single blade is still the best disposable I'v...
