I used shave oils in the past. The first time I felt I was on to something great. By the 5th or 6th shave my neck was all red and broken out. Took about 3-4 daily shaves w/o shave oil to cure it up.

Looking at both those razor heads side by side I cannot imagine how one might be more aggressive than the other. I use both heads regularly and cannot see it. To add to the confusion, I find slight differences in my shave between the Merkur head on an HD vs a Merkur head on the smaller handles. I mu...

I have 2 boxes of Arko in my cupboard which I bought at a Turkish grocer here in Montreal at 9.95 per box of 12 sticks. I am good for the long haul.
I love both the lather and the scent.

This happened to me once many years ago with a German badger brush. Needless to say it was a very expensive brush. The brand was Autruche. Not too sure about its origins. It's a brand that is sold in Razor's Edge stores throughout Canada (Centre de Rasoir in Quebec). I pumped the brush and it was at...

Definitely, Arko was not worth the time or effort of a grater.

Grated 3 Arko sticks into a hard plastic container with lid. Works great. Reminds me (consistency and not smell) of the Body shop soap in a tub. First practiced with a small piece (size of my pinky) of Trumpers soap into a coffee mug and got about 10 more shaves out of the product. Trumpers soap gra...

I would recommend you ask Alfred at Fendrihan if you could stop over and go straight to the source. I paid Scott of Rasage Poulin a visit when I was in Calgary.

Funny how some Semogue models resonate clearly in one's mind after so long while others....in other words, I had to do a quick google image search for Semogue 1438 and exclaimed...Oh ya..THAT ONE!! :-) Ed, I have the Semogue 1305 and 1800 but recently passed on the 1438 and do regret it. Do you like...

Same here -- I can make better espresso at home than most places. The Rancilio Silvia is the perhaps the best home espresso machine out there for under 1000$. It also has a really good resale value. I had mine for 2 years before I even decided (read: Knew) to do actual maintenance (i.e. backflushing...

I've owned 2 of these. The design is the same. My last one was purchased a couple of years ago - both in local Montreal stores. Admittedly, the color scheme is different but the ones I own are solid black and red.

Thanks Bruno. Not too many catch on that it's NOT Jason. He's my favorite too and represented a time/era when we were all spoiled rotten with victories and expected them. My son is now the same age that I was when I was enjoying Dryden and I remind him just how lucky his dad's generation was growing...

I'll second the Real Shaving Company. Luckily these are easily accessible where I live (2 minute walk). I bought 2 tubes (Sensitive and Moisturizing) and a 2L carton of milk for 15.99$ It lathers extremely well.
