Re: when is a blade dull?

I can't help you with the latest and greatest (as advertised on TV) razors. But in DE you'll know a blade is dull when it bites and draws blood. In SE they just stop giving an efficient shave, no biting involved. Others will come in to the discussion eventually who can. Never have I ever heard of a ...

Re: Cooking with power outage

Gary, as I mentioned you don't need to do what I did. A much smaller system designed to only power the range will suffice. It would require a 12v deep cycle lead acid battery (kept on a trickle charger 24/7/365), and an inverter (find out how much power the item consumes and size the inverter approp...

Re: In search of a good synthetic

It's been awhile since I've been in the market but when I was the biggest problems I had was that there was no grading system as there is with badger. Maybe that has changed? Here are some names for you that I give high recommendations for, Simpsons, Muhle, and Plisson. All good synthetics. Note: Wh...

Re: Cooking with power outage

Yeah, our homes are designed for an electrical connection and when it's not there they don't function all that well. Gary, we experienced an ice storm 20 some odd years ago. There was, with no exaggeration, 4" of ice coating everything after the 3 day period that it took for that buildup. It wa...

Looks good!

Yes, but if you didn't do the folding and rolling there wouldn't be the layers and I suspect that's part of the eating enjoyment. At least it would be for me.

Re: Ranch Dressing DYI in no time

Gents, understand that I didn't try it and it isn't my recipe but something I got from the 'net. I posted it only for the spice/herb mix. Good or bad, please let me know how it works for you. Ranch isn't my normal dressing of choice, but every time I've ever had it I liked it. I just don't have it o...

Re: Ranch Dressing DYI in no time

Gary, I post this not to steal your thunder but for those folks who don't like spice/herb packets. Personally I don't trust them. Here the herbs are listed for those cooks who DIY. I go so far as to make my own mayo with oils that aren't highly refined. This is not my recipe but taken from Barefeeti...

It's the 4th of July!

Happy Independence Day America!

Have your cookouts, but also let's not forget the price that was paid for our freedom, and let's not give it up freely to those who would give us a few dollars so that they can control us.

Re: How much silver in a Reed & Barton sterling silver Atra?

I doubt that it would be anything more than silver plated. Typically silver plate isn't very thick and not worth much due to the content. It would bother me to trash it, but sending it to a smelter wouldn't be cost effective. Maybe give it to a recycling center when you happen to be driving by?

Re: Air Purifiers or Humidifiers?

Generally, An air purifier does just that, it removes particulates from the air, and sometimes odors as well. HEPA versions remove exceedingly fine particulates. A dehumidifier is basically an A/C unit that removes humidity. If it cleans the air it's as a by-product of passing the air over the cold ...
