Re: Any fountain pen users here?

I am a Parker 51 enthusiast. I have my grandfather's 51 that he carried on a B-29 bomber in WWII. I purchased the limited edition 51 a decade or so ago, but it was recently stolen. I have decided to purchase a refurbished 1945 Parker 51 to replace it.

Gotta vent

It's been a while, fellows. My wife is in late Alzheimer's. (And thanks for the notes!) Anyway, I just wanted to share a bit of piling on. Kathy bought me a beautiful briefcase when I finished grad school. And then she gave me a lovely Parker fountain pen when I was promoted to associate professor. ...

Twin Peaks

I'm sure quite a few of you remember this smart and bizarre show. Well, my 14 year-old daughter was asking me what I watched when I was a kid. (I was, in fact, well into grad school, but I let her believe I was a kid.) But she is absolutely hooked now, and I have to admit that I am getting sucked in...

Best read of 2015

The "What are you reading?" thread is getting pretty full of replies, so how about the best book(s) you read in the last year. I would go with Dead Wake by Erik Larson or Tinseltown by William Mann.

Re: "Poverty meals"

I've been enjoying these responses so much that I think I'll make a few over the next week. (And I may steal some of your recipes)!

"Poverty meals"

When I was a kid in the late '60s and early '70s, my mom used to make what she called her "poverty meals." She had grown up in the deep south with little money, and she learned to cook just about everything with pinto beans and bacon grease. So, as kids, we always knew it was getting close...
