Re: DE blade usage around the world

I think most U.S. members order their blades over the internet, since they are such a niche product nowadays. So we order them from Israel, Turkey, Poland, India... Just wondering if anyone has facts (or ideas) about current DE blade usage outside North America. For instance, is it more mainstream ...

Florena and Nivea seem to be owned by the same company so just like the Florena and Nivea balms that are nearly identical, I imagine the creams are similar also. Just to set the record straight; Nivea and Florena are both owned by Beiersdorf AG, based in Hamburg, Germany. During my travels I found ...

Re: Best place to by razor blades?

Where online is the best place to buy razor blades? Not sample packs, but specific types. Thanks. Where do you live? (It was not apparent from the information you provided on SMF) Depending on the country you live in, shipping and customs charges could make a cheap offer rather expensive. Other mem...

Re: Vidyut Supermax blades

I bought a pack of those to try'em out b/c they were fairly cheap. Later on I heard some good things about'em but since I shave with a DE rarely and the Derby blade in my Tech just wouldn't quit, I didn't get around to trying it out until now. Verdict: ABSOLUTE JUNK!!! DO NOT BUY!!! Details: It did...

Nice selection

ES, Yes, and Trumpers and Harris's stuff to boot. Neat store. I always stop in when I'm in the City. If one can't ( or doesn't want to ) get up to the Upper East Side, then Bigelow's is THE place to go. Regards, Gordon I like the old-fashioned feel of the store. Among all the brands, they stock Val...

Re: Best lightbulb-shaped brush that's not too dense

The Shavemac 22368 gets my vote any time.

The ergonomic longer handle is ideal to whip up a respectable lather in the bowl, the brush has the lightbulb shape you want and from my experience the quality is second to non.

I get very good shaves from the Taylor's soap bowls but haven't tried the sticks. I also find the lavender soap's scent "just OK and no better", and quite like the sandalwood scent. In fact, I used lavender this morning and now feel particularly smooth, though I smell only OK. :) I was go...

Now I'm greatly relieved, my two Vulfixes are just like their owner -
slowly going bald...

Vulfix seems to take the idea of making personalized brushes more serious than I thought.

What the future will bring....

Thanks everyone for the advice. I heard back from Vulfix and they are sending me a new brush. Really great customer service! I'm planning to take all of the great advice given and be careful with the new one. No super hot water and not soaking. So hopefully this one won't be a problem. Dave, please...

Re: Shedding

Here's my experience with recent production Vulfixes. a) Bought two 377's in April. My "home" brush shed virtually no hairs for the first few weeks, but started shedding heirs in increasing numbers after about 2 months. Sent first brush back and used my "travel" 377 from my suitc...

Are the C&E soaps heavy on the skin? I'm interested in these 4 products -C&E sienna soap -C&E nomad soap -TOBS lavender soap -TH ultimate shaving cream I prefer soaps and have never had any problems with C&E. But if you feel like, you might try to add a drop of glycerine (available ...

Re: are shavemacs eg 177 good at soaps?

I know they are dense, but is it easier to to a SM or a Simpsons to get the job done? Does the shape make a big difference? After a bad experience with two Vulfixes, I bought two Shavemacs. As I alternate between soaps and creams, I asked Shavemac whether they could recommend a brush that is equall...

Since I have quite a few tubs on hand (ahem!) I keep the inner lid in place as I believe it will slow down the tendency for the creams to dry out. Chris So do I; it helps also when you are travelling and keeps the ceam from sticking onto the inner side of the lid. I is much easier to slide the soft...

Could you explain more what you mean by "swing" ? Are you talking about the angle between blade and skin? If so, shouldn't that be held constant as part of one's technique? I think he means "vibrate" but of course I could be wrong... That's what makes the Futur and Vision "...

Jermyn St.

Jermyn Street, just around the corner from Piccadilly Circus has a good concentration of shaving shops. Trumpers has already been mentioned, my favourite shop there is Taylor of Old Bond St. (TOBS) and they run a barber shop too. I have always been tempted to book and enjoy an old-fashioned shave in...

Same blade - different results

I have been thinking about this and the YMMV syndrome too and the list of variables that could effect blade performance is long. Alternating mainly between the Merkur 38C and Merkur Futur, I noticed the characteristic sound the blade makes as it cuts down the stubble in a Futur. This led me to think...
