On the general subject of product reformulation, I suspect that many of the changes we notice – at least changes in fragrance - are unintentional on the part of the manufacturer. The specifications for a shave soap or cream may remain exactly the same, yet the results turn out differently. How could...

Franco mentions that he has on display Puccini's moustache brush. To opera lovers, that's sort of like possessing a fragment of the True Cross. Quite an acquisition!

Their "artisan" line of shaving soaps, of which I have two on order, are made in Italy by an unnamed soapmaker who works by himself, doing this and nothing else. That's from the RazoRock website. Can't wait to try out the soap.

I see you're a new member, or rather an old member with two posts to your credit. Welcome back to the forum. I don't understand why, having such extremely sensitive skin, you would want a stiff, dense brush. When the fibers are so closely packed together, they result in a scrubbing action that can i...

RIM announced today a launch date of January 30 for the BlackBerry 10. If I weren't so delighted with my iPhone 5, I'd certainly wait for that event and the user reviews that will immediately follow. Sneak peeks and leaked reports are already giving this phone very high marks. Its web browser, for i...

Buzz should be everyone's role model. He uses only one soap, Trumper's Sandalwood, and he delights in it every day. Gary, you can cut those ten years of self-denial down to only a few months if you repurpose your shaving preps as bath soap and hand soap. Shaving creams work well for that purpose, an...

I'm of the apostate school which holds that too much water, especially if hot, causes the whiskers to go limp and lie down under the blade, instead of manfully standing up to it. This notion was originally advanced in the 1904 classic manual called "Shaving Made Easy." I prefer my lather o...

I'm with Clive about using MWF as my go-to bath soap. Its creaminess is its best feature. It's virtually fragrance-free, which is OK with me, since most of my other grooming products are distinctively scented. The cost per use is low. A single bar lasts me a good two months of twice-daily showering.

Squire - my cake is two or three years old. It lathers well and has exactly the same scent as Taylor's sandalwood cologne and aftershave balm, if you're familiar with them. I seldom use the soap because these days I'm into more subtle fragrances. This one packs a real punch, so if you're in a sandal...

Gareth - Have you tried putting just a drop of Trumper's Skin Food on the top of the puck? We have hard water at our cabin, and the SF has made a huge difference for me there. Yes, SF is expensive -- but you only use a drop, so it will last a loooonnng time. Hadn't heard that one before. I'm game f...

I don't think parabens are relevant to the discussion about Gordon's bad pot of TOBS Lavender. My good pot is paraben free according to the print right on the container, yet other good pots, as reported here, are paraben rich.

With the post from Chris (El Alamein) we now have two data points for deciding if TOBS has intentionally changed the scent of its lavender cream. My good pot of the stuff, though recently acquired, must be from pre-reformulation stock. I guess that leaves T&H as the best lavender choice but at a...

Gordon - I wonder if your pot of TOBS lavender wasn't just a fluke. I ordered a pot in July (from Bullgoose) which has the traditional Taylor lavender scent: deep and true, but a tad "sweeter" than the T&H. There's nothing modern, oceanic, or aloe-verish about it. My pot wasn't old sto...

If dollars were the only consideration, I'd agree with Slackskin. A well-made car, properly maintained, can be kept in good running condition essentially forever, and at lower cost than a new car. But there's the question of sleep insurance.

It's a tough call. On the one hand, there's the possibility that after spending $1800 on the suspension, you will sail through the next 30,000 miles with no troubles at all. On the other, various evils could crop up. Given the age and mileage of the car, that's not unlikely. My ex's 2002 Highlander,...

I'm glad it has been a success for you. Sartorial has some interesting little sensory components that (I found) seem to flit in and out, but the dominant scent was vanilla. I can't wear it, or many other modern colognes, for that reason.

Beautiful pics, Scott. You're an expert on the subject of hair tonics for sure. The alum-block treatment is perfect for me with my thin but flyaway hair. And it's so easy to apply right after the shave when I have the block already deployed. However, if you are favored with a full head of hair, the ...

Thank you, Rick. That's not what I would have expected. I can't think of many other cases where the identical product is offered in more than one style of packaging.
