Re: Shaving Brush Recommendation

Welcome to SMF! I've seen some earlier recommendations in various other threads here on SMF for Kent Bk4 and for it to be quite good as a beginner's brush and I agree, it has been working ace for me anyways!

Re: Hello again

I'm quite a new member who, is feeling very lucky and very grateful to have found this excellent shaving forum -- in my humble opinion -- the best shaving board of them all. I have learned so much since joining this community, not too long ago -- espacially about older colognes, aftershaves, shaving...

Re: Vintage Hammam - first impression

I realize that this is a nearly two-year old thread, but I would have tried chilling just the top by resting a gel pad (fresh out of the freezer) on top of it. Thanks for the Advice but I decided to keep the bottle intact and not open it for preservation sake, I have some other bottles I use instead.

Re: Vintage Hammam - first impression

This is such a fascinating scent. I really like it. Wasn't it Gordon who said that this was worn by the recent Kings of England during their coronation? I guess that would have been Edward VII and George VI? Who knows? it's got a really pleasant scent though. Chris I think so, yes. Don't know if th...

Re: new mergress

Hi. New to the forum. I just purchased the Parker Variant short handle and I really liked the the first shave on setting 1. The blade did seem to be more aggressive on one side than the other. I opened it up and as I tightened it down I applied pressure to one side. As of now it seem to make it bet...

That’s an excellent video. Thanks for posting. It seems as if the safety issues would make that establishment uninsurable these days. Open gas flames to heat curling tongs, powered belts right next to customer’s hair and the employee wearing a tie, heaven knows what toxic chemicals were in those af...

Re: Acquisitions thread

My purchase of that old shampoo bottle from Trumper may, perhaps, seem somewhat silly to some but the collector side of me urged me to buy it. I was initially planning on cleaning the bottle, refilling it with some modern Coco-Nut Oil shampoo from Trumper and then actually use it for it's intended p...

Christmas came early this year! https://i.imgur.com/5SkY2Ki.jpg A vintage bottle of Guerlain Heritage EDT, an old shampoo bottle from Trumper, a vintage Floris Elite shaving soap and I finally got my hands on a cake of English Fern shaving soap in the tallow formulation. I'm also waiting for these t...

Re: Shows I'm anticipating - new seasons coming soon???

I highly recommend the German sci-fi show "Dark" on Netflix! The show begins with the disappearance of a child in the small German town Winden, the disappearance of the child is quickly revealed to be linked to a "time travel portal" under the town's nuclear powerplant. It's an a...

Re: Royal Yacht

Looks like there is a powered axle on the ceiling and belt drive accessories can be used by the barber, in that case a belt-driven hairbrush. I've never seen such a thing, and can't really see the benefit of it. Thank you for the link! That seems like a plausible explanation. Here in this very old ...

Updating this old thread...
