FT Gillette "Toggle" D-1 Gone to Canada
This is a 1958 (D1) gold-plated Gillette "Toggle" safety razor. The "Toggle" was officially introduced in 1960 for the Christmas season, and is identified by the F4 date code. However, the "Toggle" was prototyped and given a limited test-marketing during the first quart...

I bought a Vision second hand on ebay and saved one third the price of a new one. I particularly wanted the Vision 2000 that can be disassembled and a good thing I got that model as it needed to be throughly gone through and is okay now. As far as the Slant bar being equivalent in performance to the...

FT , 1959 Fat Boy & New Merkur Slant ........Gone
This is a 1959 (E3) nickel-plated Gillette "Fat-Boy" adjustable safety razor, complete with its original box. Overall, it is in beautiful mechanical condition: the TTO mechanism is "tight" and functions perfectly to open and close the silo doors; the doors, themselves, open and c...

Steve, This difference usually means that the brushes will have a completely different feel to them. Generally the brush with three bands will be softer and gentler on your face and the brush with two bands is firmer and more scratchy. So to state the obvious, one isn't necessarily better then the ...

One more thing, if you ever get an email that looks official telling you to click on a link to go to a website to update your information x out of it and forward it to spoof@paypal.com. It is a phishing scheme where thieves are trying to get your info so they can clean you out. I used to get those e...

The Gillette NEW (the one from the 1930's, with the slot for the blade) is one of the best open comb razors, and inexpensive if you're not fussy about appearance. Or there may be an old slant razor with a comb, who knows? Here is an oldie. Looks to be modeled after a Gillette but it is a true twist...

HIV is very short lived outside of the body. Hepatitis lives about 7 days say on a countertop according to a couple of websites I googled. I would think that a good soak in Scrubbing Bubbles followed by wiping with alcohol and then a bit of mineral oil ........ leave the razor in a drawer for a coup...

172. I believe that, other than to satisfy some sort of odd compulsion to try every blade on the planet, the best idea is to try the ones most often praised here. That has been my approach though I have not tried the Swedish Gillettes or the Wilkinsons......... yet. On the other hand I am happy wit...

Speaking to J.J. at Atkinson's on the two versus three banded controversy he said that it is an 'urban myth'. I have only experienced the three banded variety so I have no opinion. Jimmy I think the urban myth is that the two-band is really a three-band, with just the knot tied at the end of the se...

I too had a friend give a few different blades to me and I have tried a half dozen various brands. I have settled on the Feather and the Israeli Personna A.K.A. IP in the blue and white wrapper. Nothing wrong with trying many others if you have an inquiring mind and the inclination to do it. In read...

I do it daily and have for years. I think that the previously mentioned Stretching by Bob Anderson is a good basic starting point.
