Mystic Water Shaving Soap Review

I happened upon a thread about Mystic Shaving soap (mystic4men.com) and procured a sample of the Lime from the maker, Michelle. She is an artisan soap maker based in Maryland, has apparently been making a very broad range of soaps for a long time, and recently branched into the shaving soap market. ...

I have Simpsons brushes in Best and Super 2-Band, Thater in both 2-Band and Silver Tip, but the scrubbiest brush I have so far is the Semogue 2011 LE Badger size 1,,,, is great! I'll second the Semogue LE badgers. I have both sizes and they are fantastic. Scritchy and scrubby, but not too much so. ...

I had the distinct pleasure of sampling a couple of Vie-Long brushes (badgers) a few weeks ago. Not being familiar with the brand at all, I didn't know what to expect. One was a small Silvertip and the other a 2-bander--the smaller one was nice, but the 2-band was really a quality brush. I'll be int...

Excellent writeup, Tim. I have a 3-band D01 and have been wondering how it would compare to the finest and 2-band Shavemac knots, so this is very interesting. Thanks.

Re: Help: Shipping a Simpson back to factory

I've read where some of you mention shipping a brush back to the manufacturer. I have a Simpson that was shedding and wanted Simpson's to check it out. Went to local UPS Store and they quoted me $130 for UPS or $65 via Postal priority mail. Holy crap! I can buy a new brush cheaper! What have you al...

Re: Question:

If I asked you to name the primary functions of your shaving brush, what would they be? As a manufacturer we want to produce a shaving tool that, ... (a) Exfoliates. (b) Produces lather (although the soap or cream is the driving force here). (c) Is ergonomic. (d) Is aesthetically pleasing. Probably...

Nice to hear, Ed. I'll second your thoughts about Teiste--he and I have had some great dealings and he is a super guy.
I'm not familiar with either of those soaps; I'll have to keep my eyes open for them.

Good performance (quality/slickness/stability of the lather) is #1, certainly...but there are so many great performers out there that scent is definitely a major factor as well. Skin conditioning is further down the list since we can use products after the shave to augment the soaps/creams.

The beehive looks like a wonderfully ergonomic handle!
Will it be available in different sizes, or just a one-off (LE)?

Wow.
I got a Wee Scot for Christmas, and used it a few times on a weekend trip. It worked well for me, but I can't imagine using something smaller. I can see that the Plisson handle might be difficult to grip!
