Sorry for the late arrival. I was in Bermuda for a few days. My interpretation of CAR's writting (and my own opinion on the subject) is that we shave with what amounts to "fortified water". The goo that we put on our face is a mixture of water, lipids, and emollients (with possibly a few o...

How many American men (sorry to exclude our brothers up north and across the pond) wear a full beard all the time? Less than 1% I would guess. That means that almost half the country's population shaves at least some of the time. Now, how many of them are interested in wet shaving of any type? Maybe...

I can not speak for CAR or Adam Mendelson, only for myself. There is a reason why I choose to write about and describe Method Shaving the way that I do. Shaving is a very personal and feel driven thing. I do not think that step-by-step "stereo instructions" are the most effective way to co...

My intention is not to defend CAR but rather increase the understanding of Method Shaving. I fully understand that many people have a problem with CAR, in particular, the way he writes. What I don't want to happen is for those feelings to create misconceptions about the method itself. With that said...

I think you guys are taking the grain comments in CAR's writting out of context and to the nth degree. The grain of a man's beard is also the direction in which it grows. Of course beard hair has a direction of growth. No one is denying that. The forms and sequenced to take advantage of the fact tha...

Gordon, I have read that Surrey and Conk are made by the same outfit (the cakes are the same size, shape, and come in identical packaging). I last used Conk almond and bay rum soap about 2 years ago. I ended up throwing away the almond because I didn't like the smell. I remember liking the bay rum, ...

I am known around the community as a Method Shaving guy. As you may or may not be aware, that means I have an affinity for the methods and products developed by Charles Roberts. With that being said, I still enjoy using shaving soap from time to time. Burma Shave was what I started with a few years ...

Forgot to add,
The knot appears to be 26mm. The handle is quite large and heavy. About 50% taller than my Chubby and roughly twice as heavy (none of these measurements have been confirmed, just me and my eyeballs) It is very well balanced. The handle may be my favorite feature on the brush.

I've used the brush once with Trumper's Sandalwood. It worked well, you just have to be careful because it is easy to dilute the mix. The hair in this brush is much finer and more densly packed than my Chubby #3 Super. The two brushes have completely different feels. I would describe the Simpson's a...

I have been fortunate enough to beta test one of the new Shave Master brushes. I have also ordered one of the SMF Shavemacs. I am very curious to see how these modern shaving brush designs compare to each other. These brushes are designed for two different styles of shaving, so it is not a straight ...

The South Jersey/Philadelphia area is famous for it's cheesesteaks and hoagies (subs and/or grinders to folks in other parts of the country). AC has what is considered one of the best sandwich shops in the world, The White House located at 2301 Artic Avenue. Ask anyone who works at your hotel and th...

Face Tools

I recently had the privledge to try a new line of shaving & skin care products developed by a local barber/mens-grooming-merchant here in South Jersey. It goes under the name "Face Tools" and currently has three products. The first is called Granular Scrub and is the best face wash/exf...

Best Value in Wet Shaving

Most of the shaving soaps and creams discussed on this board are of the high-end variety. Every so often someone will mention William's soap which seems to be the most widely available "drug store" brand. I can't recall having seen any thread which mentioned my favorite drug store soap, Bu...

This may seem like a silly question, but what is a "weep hole"? It doesn't sound good that's for sure. Is it something you only get with a str8 or can it happen with a DE too?

Chris, Bailing out after only one shave? I saw that you put it on the trading block. Hey, the smell has to work for you or there's no sense in using it. If I didn't have a full tub I'd consider making you an offer. As it is, I've got enough shaving cream socked it to survive a famine. Brett Graver O...

IMHO it shaves just as well as Salter's Mint and Trumper's Sandalwood (two of my favorites). The consistency reminds me of Trumper's but a little runnier. I'm curious to hear how you think it compares to the other forumula. If you like the other stuff better I'm going to be real anxious to get my ha...

I bought a tub of Eaton College from Classic Shaving about a month ago and it is exactly as you describe. It is the first tub of Taylor that I've ever used so I don't know what the cream itself used to look like. I've seen other posts on this forum indicate that Eaton College used to come in a blue ...

I'm the guy who traded Joel the slant razor. I bought it when I was still a beginner so I tought I might be able to give Chris an answer to his question; I started wet shaving with a regular Merkur HD safety bar and was having trouble getting into the channels on my neck alongside my adam's apple. I...
