The new James Bond ... and his safety razor

I was amused, reading the new James Bond novel Carte Blanche by Jeffery Deaver, that Bond uses a safety razor: He shaved with a a heavy, double-bladed safety razor, its handle of light buffalo horn. He used this fine accessory not because it was greener to the environment than the plastic disposable...

Vetiver

Just re-reading Alan Clark's diaries on Kindle, and a reference is made to Vetiver which has hitherto passed me by as a classic men's scent — anyone got any recommendations?

Apple taking the strategic decision to make the iPod Windows-compatible ("Hell froze over", as the ads said) was genius. In effect, the iPod became a Trojan Horse into the Windows user base. The rest is history. Business schools will be teaching it for years.

Pure self-indulgence. Like "nut allergies". There was none of that carry-on before they stabbed Maggie in the back.

Interesting how everyone is locking into the cloud thing. Apple will reportedly be releasing a version of iTunes along with the iPhone 5 which will feature "cloud" storage. So here is some inside skinny on this cloud thing. In IBM (where we coined the cloud concept) we used to sell this c...

I dont get ereaders when you can have an ipad for a *few* bucks more... I have both. The iPad is a great portable computer, but it's a lousy e-reader. The Kindle is a great e-reader, but it's a lousy portable computer. I don't see them as competitive devices in any way. For what it's worth, if I ha...

First time I've seen this thread, so I'll chuck in my tuppence worth.

For as long as HMQ and the rest continue to allow UK plc to relieve tourists of far more money than they cost, they can keep crowned and carry on.

In any case, what's the alternative? President Blair? No thanks.

Diesel's strictly for taxis, trucks and tractors. All that belching soot and rattling. Filthy fuel. Pump your own and you stink for days. Even the sums don't add up in its favour anymore (in the UK at any rate). Hybrids, FTW.

brian I think bbs originated as a phrase used by guys who wanted to brag about how close they could shave. The first concern is a comfortable shave and the rest follows with practice which you get to do every day. This has always been my mantra. A comfortable shave is much more important than a clo...

I can relate. I started on my DE adventure two or three years ago and rapidly accumulated a selection of four or five of the most popular razors in current production. Right now, I could happily bin them all and survive with just the Slant. It's been my go-to of choice for at least the last six mont...

I'm revisiting all the Fleming Bonds in chronological order on my Kindle. I'm about half way through — I haven't read them since I was a teenager and I'm thoroughly enjoying them.

DR Harris's is a good one, IMO, but pricey. I prefer a mentholated aftershave, so usually reach for Superior 70 which is cheaper (but impossible to source in Europe; I'm obliged to a fellow member on here in the USA who hooked me up with my last consignment).

I purchased an All-ett a couple years ago and it was one of the worst purchases I made. They didn't have the leather one at the time (I still see the interior is sail-cloth) so I bought the original. The embarrassment of pulling that thing out of your pocket at a restaurent and it crinkling loudly ...

I'm a fan of wallets that are thin and will fit in my pocket. That generally rules out rivets of any sort, clips, change pouches, and tri-folds. And it still has to be made of leather. Then let me introduce you to the wallet that changed my life: http://www.all-ett.com/productdetails.asp?prodid=10&...
