I love the creams, and I have nothing against preservatives. Never understood the urge to refrain from preserving. Anyway, what I want to say is that I wish creams could enjoy the same status as soaps, lasting 5 or 6 decades or more, even retaining their fragrance in some cases. I'd guess that 5 to ...

I've got both Coate's and T&H, and it's true that they are similar. I'm very pleased with the T&H. I got mine from On the Fly with free shipping from California. I've not tried it this way, but I have heard that if ordering T&H products directly from T&H (go to their website for the ...

For cleaning razors I use MarviCide, it's about the same stuff as Barbicide, it's available at barber and beauty supply stores at cheap prices. Mix it with water as the bottle specifies, and soak the razor for as long as you wish. It kills everything, and it's used currrently by a great many barber ...

Hi Joe. Your post is the first I ever heard of an Orange Derby. I did locate them by googling "250 Derby Blades" and they came up on Amazon, and they appear to be selling out quickly, probably in part as a result of your post. $20 for 250 Derbys is obviously a good price. I hope they turn ...

Themba, this is very interesting to me. Like most other guys, I've seen a lot of the guarded straight razors and routinely considered them to be a gimmick from many decades ago, that didn't catch on, or simply hair shapers, of no use to me. Thanks for pointing out the serious problems that a lot of ...

please stop this talk now! :? i'm just getting over sbad and am still vulnerable. thank you Gil, do not read this thread. You will not like the 2234. I promise. The BK4 is just slightly firmer than the 2234 and was too floppy for you. Don't buy a 2234. Repeat. Don't buy a 2234. Everyone else: buy o...

SMF has a lot of generous members who are eager to send samples of our favorites to other members. Most of us here can happily say we've given and received generous samples of products we're curious about. Back to purchasing samples, I was so glad to be able to purchase the Taylor's samples from TSD...

Re: Another Failure

I myself experience a better, more protective lather with a brush and soap than with any canned goo I’ve used. The Gillette "Edge Sensitive" gel in the late 80's and early 90's was as protective as a section of inner tube. It was being able to shave that was the problem. Agreed - wi...

TOBS Lavender Soap question

I recall there was a recent popularity of the TOBS Lavender soap a few weeks ago. More recently, I was able to obtain a sample of TOBS Lavender Shaving Cream, which seemed to me to be strong, which I like, and it reminded me of the fragrance of Castle Forbes and Connaught Lavender creams. The reason...

Re: Curved mirror?

Hi, Would it be a good idea to use a curved mirror for shaving? At the correct distance it can magnify so I thought this could help while shaving hard spots. Are you saying that you need help seeing your trouble spots, or that being able to see them close up will help you shave them any better? I c...

The Boker looks interesting. Coincidentally, I snagged a black and white Ever Ready brush identical to yours this past weekend at a local flea market.
