I have more than a couple of Taylors Super badgers. However, out of curiosity, I also bought a pure badger with a large handle (the equivalent of a Vulfix 377 but in pure badger). I find it way too prickly for my tastes. It's in my rotation but at the bottom of the scale. Even the Omega boars and sy...

The article makes complete sense to me. It certainly explains why my face looks and behaves better when I shave without showering as oppossed when I do shower shave combo.

Thanks Rob. Your response was truly quick and much appreciated.

You too Doc -- you were pretty quick with your comment too.

I may have missed something as I didn't go through that list in any exhaustive way but what DE razor is pictured here?

It looks quite beautiful and certainly caught my attention.

Sometimes I like to do something I was forced to do in the reserves (please! no weekend warrior jokes!!! :) On a dry face simply apply the wet lather which is worked in and then painted on. I work up the lather (usually KMF or Proraso) in an enamel or melamine camping mug). I have done this with a s...

Oh ya. I used it back in the late 80s. The one I used had a red box but the tube (I think) may have been white. I used a brand that was a "barbershop" version with the outline of a mustachioed faced man. It is not available. Too bad as the history is old. I saw mennen in the shave kits of ...

I had to pick one up as well when I realized that it was discontinued. For some reason I seem to remember the smell to be more pronounced and "sickly" While it's no sweet bouquet the smell seems faint. My local pharmacy isn't even aware that the red is discontinued. They are expecting a ne...

I bought a small Omega superbadger for about 90 dollars CDN and used it for awhile before giving it to my brother. I liked it a lot but found the Vulfix to be a better value. Irrespective, I still have at least 2 Omega superbadgers on my list to acquire and both are under 100 dollars CDN.

Telly Savalas in one of the latter Dirty Dozens (yes, he was killed off in the first one but came back to lead the group in a later reincarnation). He was shaving with a mini straight which he carried as a chain around his neck. Platoon -- in the early scenes at the firebase you can see one of the g...

I own a "puro tasso" Omega. It was my first foray into expensive badgers. I bought mine at a cigar shop in downtown Montreal for about 95$ CDN. There were of course other Omegas that ranged from 100 - 300 dollars. All felt incredibly soft. I have since passed that brush onto my brother whe...

A brand new cake of Williams IMO is not usable. I end up adding boiling water and leaving it in overnight. I use the term "breaking it in" to describe it. Once that is acheived (it can take a few days if not more and I use other creams/soaps stuff during that period) there is a perpetual g...

With reluctance, I too would have to add Proraso to one of the most overrated. Proraso, in my opinion, is a cream of the people (i.e. cheap, excellent quality and extremely accessible). Why on earth would I mail order that? The fact that it is readily available everywhere I go (in Montreal) and very...

I wonder if bigger brushes (knot size) are more prone to shedding. I have about a half dozen super and pure badgers. The only one that seems to shed regularly (1 hair every few shaves or so) is my 30mm superbadger.

In terms of absorbtion, I wonder where a horse hair brush is placed.....between a boar and badger? I don't know, the concept of horse hair strikes me as pretty soft. The price of 4 dollars though rules it out perhaps.

That's interesting. I also find that too much water spoils the Proraso experience. This may be why the Omega boar brushes and the Proraso (especially the soap version) go particularly well.

Hey Jeff, It's quite cheap actually. I have the big pump (squirt) bottles in Jasmine and Key Lime. I also picked up a small tube of lavender which is not as pronounced as other lavender based creams (it's subtle though). Used without a brush it's quite useless even if its intended role. But with a b...

I for one have tons of KMF and it works great. I am also about to pick up more of it. Surprisingly, Halifax (where I am travelling to this week) carries it at the local Atlantic SuperStore. Are there any other places where I can pick it up?
Thanks,

No Jeff,

It's the Surrey box marked Glycerine Shave Soap. Not the white hypoallergenic one (although some people like that one too).

Everything said about the glycerine all the way down to a subtle glycerine barrier left after your initial rinse is true.
