Evening Johnnie, For decades I blissfully used two scents, the original 4711, over 200 years in production, and its American cousin Bourbon Parfum's No. 1, which is essentially the same scent brought to these shores by an employee of the original firm in the 1840's and still made to the same formula...

Evening Gordon, Thanks for the kind words, your imput is always appreciated. I made the post to provide information rather than imply anyone should use or not use any product. Frankly the aftershave balms, skin foods, etc., are a bit of a mistery to me as I have never used them. Reminds me of an inc...

Afternoon Johnnie, I use alcohol based aftershaves daily and have done so for decades with no discomfort whatsoever. Quite the contrary, I find them very refreshing but apparently other shavers have experienced different results. This is one of those things that fall into the personal preference cat...

Afternoon Chris,

On scent alone I would rate them as follows:

Castle Forbes, Coates, Salter, Trumpers, and Truefitt. Taylors lemon-lime
was not included as it is not a true lime scent.

I get very good shaves from all of them but Trumpers as a line seems to give me the most consistent results.

Hmm, well, offhand, Soaps: Harris almond, Taylors lavender and sandalwood, Trumpers almond, sandalwood and lime, dozens of Williams and Colgates, and a Surrey that was melted and flavored with D.R. Harris sandalwood aftershave. Seems like I have a theme here. Creams: Prehaps these would be easier li...

Evening Gents, I concur with the good Doctor. I find the Trumpers cologne to be more rich and deep than the dryer scented cream, sort of like a bass to a baritone, yet both are stand alone powerful scents. With Taylor I find the reverse to be true with the cream just a touch more intense, like a ten...

Evening Sam, Both say Hi-Stainless on the blade and appear identical. Both are presented in the same plastic box/packet and the regular Hi-Stainless has a platinum cover (go figure) and the NEW Platinum has a yellow cover. Lacking a cover the only way to tell the difference is the Hi-Stainless is in...

Afternoon Gents, Interesting how the same brand of blade works differently on us as individuals. Manufacturing standards are such that one would think we could agree on a ranking system but life is not so tidy. Even in daily use there can be variances in our individual shave results using the same b...
