1. Slim adjustable with a Dorco ST-301 blade is my go-to combination. I like using progressive settings with each pass using the Slim, like 3,4,5, even 6. The Dorco 301 blade is a sharp yet forgiving blade that can give BBS shaves when I choose to go for it. The extensive coating system makes a diff...

One last thing regarding sources, Crunchy. I posted above some places where these blades are available in the U.S. In the UK try: http://connaughtshaving.com/razorblades.html Connaught shaving has many of the blades listed in Squire's reviews. Prices there, however, are such that it may be cheaper t...

Have you checked out Squire's blade reviews at the top of this forum? I've tried just a few of the blades listed there, but would recommend Dorco ST-301's. They're extensively coated (makes a difference for my sensitive skin), yet sharp enough to give a good, even BBS shave. Though it's a mild razor...

The week before last, I shaved with a 7o'clock yellow, this week with a Derby, which sells for less than half since Giovanni raised the price on the yellow by 67%. The 7o'clock SharpEdge (yellow) is a nice blade, but not worth twice the price of a Derby. I went back to DE shaving to save on the outr...

If the carbon steel edge of those blades was indeed deformed by contact with the whiskers, all the more a case for stainless steel blades. The higher yield strength of stainless steel, certainly higher than the carbon steel used in blades 77 years ago, allows such a blade edge to exert more cutting ...

Leaving the glue on blade did not keep me from getting very good shaves with a 7o'clock yellow, but there is one difference I did notice. After 5+ shaves with the 7o'clock SharpEdge, there is much more soapy film left on the blade as compared to two used Dorco 301's that this blade is sandwiched in ...

As has been noted elsewhere in this forum, many of the good blades come from geopolitical hot spots like Russia, Korea, Pakistan, Turkey, and Israel. As good as Giovanni (pronounced Joe-VAH-knee, he seemed to appreciate it when I said it that way) is, the supply of these blades could be subject to i...

I've read more than once from knowledgeable owners of Gillette adjustables on this board that it's not a good idea to change settings with the doors tightened down on a blade. That is if it can even be done with the doors tight, it puts more stress on the adjusting mechanism, increasing the chances ...
