I am hoping to try some vintage Yardley shaving soap. Anyone interested in selling?

That looks to be in pretty good shape, and includes the after shave as well. Still, thats a higher price than I've ever seen for YSS.

You can find it quite regularly on ebay for under $15. Just have to keep looking.

I do know much about vintage soaps, but is it any good assuming it would be past its shelf life?
the word "Vintage soap" evokes the same emotions as "vintage sushi"

According to those in the know, unlike sushi, shaving soap has a very LONG shelf life.

From experience......The lather quality remains but the scent diminishes. I use several vintage soaps including Yardley, Paisley's, Lentheric 'Lavande' and a cherished bowl of Houbigant 'Fougere Royal'.

Just to second Steve; I have a bowl of Yardley shave soap that is 50 years old, at least, and it still lathers superbly, although the scent has largely faded.

I'm still going with my theory that a top shelf soap will slightly improve with age. It adds to their mystique.

Is this another American thing? I wouldn't expect it to be very good, Yardley is associated with Grannies here in the UK!

I'm not sure what my granny shaves with, but her beard is fuller than mine.
Actually, Yardley shaving soap has not been available for quit some time and is consiered 'tops' as far as shaving soap goes. When I got mine, it lookd so good, I had second thoughts of using it. I must say, I subscribe to Richard's assertion that quality soaps improve with age.

James, Regardless of current associations in some circles, Yardley did not hold three Royal Warrants as soapmakers simultaneously for no reason. Their stuff used to be, and the real English made stuff still is, top shelf, quality-wise. The old Yardley shave soaps were some of the best ever offered.

Gordon
