Think of the Rolls as a cross between a safety razor and a straight razor. It offers the convenience (and some of the safety) of the safety razor in that it isn't a fully-exposed blade, and it's easier to handle. It also gives you the extreme sharpness and close shave you get from a straight razor.
The key is that rather than using a disposable blade, it has a hollow ground steel blade which is designed to be resharpened. The Rolls also has an amazing system for doing so—simply attach the blade to the handle inside the case, and slide it back and forth about 10-30 times. The blade will have an amazingly keen edge on it, and you're ready to go for the next day.
The other auto-strop razors use the same idea, but aren't as convenient because they don't come with a nifty case design for stropping. Those run back and forth across an actual strop.
