I notice a lot of people posting in regards to staining under armpits, over-sweating under armpits, and other issues regarding armpits. I have been using anti-perspirent since I was 13-14 and I am now 22. I have suffered from over-perspiration under the armpits for the last 5 years. Funny thing is I just assumed it was my problem and I couldn't do much about it because I was already using maximum strength anti-perspirant. Never did it dawn upon me to stop and use just plain deoderant. Furthermore, I too had probelms with staining under the armpits which essentially ruined some of my most expensive clothes (I sometimes refrain from buying shirts I like for this reason). Anyways, after reading on this forum about the crystal deoderants (and being on vacation) I decided to give it a try. I went down to the local pharmacy and picked up a generic stick. Long story short I have been using it for a week and not only does it keep me odorless, but I am essentially DRY. I can't beleive it, I think my body reacted violently with anti-perspirent or something but I am completely sweat free. I have never had an odor problem btw. I also like the odorless(ness) so it doesn't clash with my colognes, the fact that it doesnt stain, and that it lasts so long.

Big thanks to Shavemyface members who vouched for this stuff, it will def. make a [significant] difference in my life. I 'feel' different being dry.

My skin has a strong reaction to anti-perspirant, so I only use deodorants. I've considered trying the crystal deodorant as well, and I may do so the next time I need to buy some.

I have NO odor using the crystal. Apparently it's supposed to work better than deoderant because it actually neutralizes the bacteria instead of covering it up with scent. But I could see how some people who have problems with smell might find the crystal ineffective.

On the packaging it says apply liberally and I have taken this literally. I apply to each underarm for 15 second each - it dries instantly.

The only way the crystal works for me is if I'm sitting around the house doing nothing (i.e. not-sweating).

This was my probelm with anti-perspirent. I would put it on and immedietly start sweating regardless of activity level. I could be watching TV after a cold shower on a cold day and I would still sweat.

My comment wasn't intended to detract from the properties of crystal deodorant. In fact, I'm thinking of giving the crystal a try. I was just responding to the assertion that deodorants are just another form of applied scent.

I thought deoderents just cover the scent. Guess I was wrong.

The "crystal deodorant" is a block of alum. (Mine is ammonium alum, but I think potassium alum would work too.)

I have been shaving my armpit hair since I was 16 and find that it helps tremendously in keeping down body odour. Usually I will do this 2-3 times per week using a disposable razor in the shower with some soap/conditioner as lubrication and one pass with the grain is all that is needed.

I remember when I first did it I got very itchy and developed some spots but with continuous shaving my skin got very used to it. Now, I will start itching if I need to shave it.

With the crystal deodorant, I believe there will be maximal antibacterial effect if the layer of alum is left directly on the skin, i.e. on shaved armpits. I dont expect it to be very effective if there is plenty of hair.

Probably correct. However, I'm fairly furry, and it works OK for me.

I umm don't shave my armpits and it works great.
