Skin Tags UPDATE

Post by Spenser »

Seen an ad on tv about removing skin tags and ordered some. Procedure is dip a Q-tip in bottle and then rub on skin tag. Now on 2nd bottle and still have the tags although it does seem to lessen the annoyance of them, have tags under arm and neck area. (and the odor is ah, ... memorable.)

Went to doctor to have removed and he said it would cost a fortune and suggested do it at home with razor or the small surgical scissors. They are in places I can't see well enough to do and my wife is chicken. He also suggested a product (wort remover) that freezes them and they will fall off, impression from him is that it would take awhile. Have looked in store and can't find, going to try Walgreens next.

My wife had some and put scotch tape on them and it worked but took more than a couple of weeks. Tried that on my neck for a day and drove me crazy(er).

Anyone have any experience with removal of these little devils.

UPDATE: I started with Dr Scholls Freeze Away Wart Remover, 7 Applications kit. Some improvement but for sure would take at least another kit. 3 warts on chest. About $15

Then used a Pharmaceutical Grade Tea Tree Oil. Immediate improvement on all tags, had several. They are shrinking and tags around my neck are not as irrating. Comes in little 1 oz bottle and can't even tell have used any. Applies with Q-tip. $9. :D

I did get the wart remover at Walgreens, called Dr Scholl's Freeze Away. After reading the instructions they caution against using on anything but common and Planter warts. Got a couple of warts will try on them and see what happens.

While I was there checked out the DE blades and they had one choice, a Walgreens brand, anybody know who makes them. I got em, will see if any good.

I'm turning into a DE blade slut.

Don't Dr Scholls do a skin tag remover product. At least they do up here in Canada. I think it's pretty much the same product as the plantar's wart remover, with perhaps the exception of not being as concentrated?

Thanks Wendell, I have a few and that product from Walmart looks interesting. Years back I had a few removed and I had to see a skin specialist to do it. My family doctor wouldn't do it.

Thanks for your effort Wendell. Walmart US does not carry?
Went to Amazon and they had a huge Dr Scholls deptartment. 30 some pages of Scholl products, no item by this name though. Did find a product w/high marks guarenteed to work if you follow directions exactly. Sounds a little like minor surgery  This item works on moles and tags, you know the old story, if its too good to be true - - -

Put that item in my cart and gonna look some more and see whats available.

I suspect that there are cross-border licensing issues around these kinds of self-treatments.

Not too many years ago, this would have been covered by our gov't health care here in Canada, but that has changed, and this service is one that now costs us. So the notion of buying a concoction and treating ourselves is something we are just getting used to.

Interesting. So your health care is still evolving?, I sometimes wonder if the US will survive our health care debate. Between that and gun control there is a lot emotion being worn on the sleeves.

But I guess nothing stays the same.

I had a giant skin tag under my arm.....went to the doc, she sprayed something on it, snip, all done...less than 3 minutes. I think i paid a $30 co pay for an office visit. Unless i misunderstand what you have, why it would cost a fortune to remove is worth looking into further

I would say that we have been facing some difficult decisions and choices. It's much harder to find a family physician, but once you get one, you are pretty well set. Many of them

Our queues are lengthening, but there are ways around them -- for example, here in Ottawa, we can opt to go to our sick kids hospital for a MRI if we are willing to go during the wee hours of the morning ..... I know of folks who did this and got their scans within a week or less as opposed to a few months in some cases going the traditional 8-5 timeblock route. Elective surgery can take longer than essential surgery -- but no one who is in a life-threatening situation is denied any treatment.

Emergency rooms are way too busy, but that's because folks aren't leveraging things like our tele-health nurse practitioner phone lines, etc.

It's not perfect, nor is it the health care system that Tommy Douglas envisioned when he championed the cause all those years ago.

A national health service is not a draconian institution as it can be played out by some media --- but it's not Shangri-La either. There are benefits and detractions to either a pure socialized or pure privatized program. I wish we could find the balance, but that's not going to happen anytime soon given the global economy and the always trepidatious nature of the future.

Back on topic -- we did away with covering for skin tags and plantars warts and other similar growths awhile back, but as is always the case, more than one company has come up with an alternative that can do the trick so long as one follows instructions carefully, that is.

I have had tags removed by my doctor. His method is like taking a biopsy. At least they don't come back.

The homeopathic drops are a scam. You can freeze the tags off or cut them off. Small tags can be removed with finger nail clippers.

I have used the Dr. Scholls freeze kit several times on myself and family for skin tags.Works just as good as the unit in the Dermatologists office. In the old days the doctors would electrocute them off.

I had 6 tads removed for the price of a copay.
