Coconut Oil Pulling

Post by Sam »

Read about this in our local paper and it seems that people are taking coconut Oil (or sesame or olive or sunflower oil) and swishing it like mouthwash for 20 minutes. Said to whiten teeth and help pull toxins out of the body. Coconut Oil is said to be most effective as it has more microbial benefit. Anyone do this or have anything to say?

Sam, anything that mentions 'toxins' is automatically hogwash.

This + nothing antimicrobial about vegetable oils + nothing in vegetable oils that whitens teeth (you would need either a mild abrasive or bleaching agent for that).

It's literally one of the dumbest fads to come along since the magic crystals and power pyramids of the 1980's.

My wife swears by Coconut Oil. She uses it for all kinds of "remedies". That being said...That is a use she has never tried. I will choose not to tell her. I don't want her to try it.

A few years ago I read that Coconut oil applied to serious skin ulcers healed them. I know holding it in the mouth sounds like a challenge but it is tasty so you could just swallow some. Might improve digestion.

Now my wife's grandmother when she was still living drank aloe vera.
