POTD: What pen/pencil are you using today?
Re: POTD: What pen/pencil are you using today?
No, no Squire, God created the fountain pen; the devil created the rollerball and the ballpoint.Squire wrote:That's why God created rollerballs.

Most of my writing today was done with a red Esterbrook J filled with PR Tanzanite ink or a green Pilot G-2 gel pen.

I certainly agree with the ballpoint part.Rufus wrote: the devil created the rollerball and the ballpoint.

Today's pen is a burgundy Parker Frontier GT, fine nib, with a Quink permanent blue cartridge. For a fine nib it writes a pretty wide line, but the XF nib produces too fine a line for my liking.

The last few days I've mostly used a red Esterbrook J filled with PR tanzanite and the "Unknown Pelikan" ballpoint. A couple other pens on my desk got some brief use. I think the blue Esterbrook J I mentioned previously is in need of repair.

I've used an assortment the last few days, including:
The "unknown" Pelikan and a cheap Pilot bp
A couple Pilot G-2s
The red Esterbrook J filled with PR tanzanite ink
A Pilot Metropolitan FP, M nib, that I was given, with a Pilot blue-black cartridge
A blue Cross fp (Solo, I think) filled with blue ink

Since it's St. Patrick's Day a green Pilot Q7 pen with a green refill and a Kaweco Sport fountain pen with a Kaweco palm green cartridge seemed appropriate.

Picked up another Staedtler graphite 760. This time it's the 0.5 mm one ... works great.

In addition to the occasional use of a few ballpoints (notably a Parker Frontier GT) and gel pens, I've also been using a blue Pilot decimo filled with someone's (might be Namiki) blue ink and a Metropolitan.

These days I am using a Retro 51 Hex-o-matic that I have outfitted with a Monteverde M43 filler in blue.

A blue Pilot decimo, Pilot blue ink in a cartridge.
A Zebra F-402 ballpoint with a blue medium refill. I emptied a bunch of these refills taking notes years ago, and recently found a couple pens that were "lost" in a drawer.

A 1950's Pelikan 400 with a medium semi-flex nib. I own +100 fountain pens and I'm finding my 6 Pelikans to be my favourites.

I have a modest collection. Lately, I have been using two Rotring Core pens, one with Diamine Imperial Purple and the other with Private Reserve Spearmint. The pens are great for my morning Sudoku puzzles and the grocery list. Gotta find fun when retired, you know.

I bought a Pilot Metropolitan a few weeks ago, to see if it would allow me to write a bit easier with a focal dystonia in my forearm. It's been pretty good (although the starter cartridge is now empty).

For the past few days - A couple ballpoints on my desk: Zebra F402 with a blue refill and a Pilot with a black one. A blue Pilot decimo fp with a medium nib and blue ink has been in my pocket, and got some use.

Re: POTD: What pen/pencil are you using today?
I think I forgot how to write. Generally, I write all day long, taking notes of what was said and decided as quickly and efficiently as I can. Being a hoary old dinosaur, I have strong reservations about the province owning and having access to everyone's medical records (not to mention me only having access to them if the power is on and the internet connection works, plus getting rid of all the Macs in this office and buying PCs and a few thousands of dollars of billing software). I decided some years ago that any absolute requirement to use their provincial electronic medical record would trigger my retirement. So I make complete paper records with my fountain pens. But having been off work for eight months, I'm finding it odd to go back to writing quickly, legibly and neatly. Pride is involved, as I have always admired neat handwriting. So I've concentrated on using a good jack-of-all-trades pen this last two weeks, a Namiki-Pilot Yukari Sweet Flag and Moon:
along with my favourite Waterman's purple ink. I think I'm getting the hang of it again! Soon I will have to try out my stub and italic nibs and see if I can reproduce the 'hands' I used to use with them. Got to make the job interesting!

Waterman Encre Violette Purple?
At the clinic today a young lady was helping me fill out forms (print too small for me to read) but I had written my address and she said, "I love the way you write numbers, my grandfather writes like that".
