I came across an interesting page about the X-ray craze of the turn of the century - people slapped the term on anything and everything.
Here is one that makes the new Fusion gimmick seem a bit tame

Nick, If it was the turn of the ( 20th c. ) it would have been the 'square deal'.....first President Roosevelt.
