Professional advice and personal opinions are entirely different things. Everyone is free to form and share their personal opinions, and we all do. Giving away one's professional advice for free is not prudent. :D

What..you mean friends with benefits? :D

Fortunately number one and I had a non-acrimonious parting and we remain on good terms.

Not at all. We have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. Accordingly, we need to talk fairly often and it helps a great deal to be on good terms so that we're not distracted by on-going or unresolved issues between us.

We lived in Boston at the time, and they spent the day driving down to New York, listening to Don Larsen pitch his perfect game in the World Series!
Don Larsen passed away yesterday at 90. RIP.

Interesting stroll through this thread ... I haven't perused this board in awhile (variety of job changes over the last few years), and I don't recall reading this thread back in the day.

My marriage has been a sh*t show from the beginning, mostly a result of my profound immaturity (that I've only recently realized through a healthy dose of "self work"). I wish I had known then what I know now, and had gone through some deep therapy ... it may have been a much happier and fulfilling experience. Water over the dam at this point, sadly for both of us. Although I knew things were not good, I didn't understand my deep, deep immaturity resulting from a variety of childhood experiences as well as mildly dysfunctional parents (dysfunctional enough that it was bad for me as an adult). Here I am, a few months from my 50th birthday, and I'll be single after 25 years of a rocky marriage. I'm not even sure what to think. I'll get through it.

I suppose the upside is that my soon-to-be-ex will actually be a friend after it's done ... more than I can say for the entirety of our marriage. And it'll be nice to have her as a friend ... everyone needs more friends in their life.

Sigh.

Live and learn.

I was single for 7 years after my marriage of 19 years broke down. I enjoyed the single life and it gave me time to reflect on many things about my marriage, my career, me and life in general. I re-married in my eighth year of singleness and have been happy with my decision for the last 22 years of married life. Even my children from my previous marriage, now in their late 30s and early 40s, comment on how much better I am; even better, they get on very well with their step-mother
