Well since I was airborne, airborne and airmobile figure prominently in my favs. I just identify more with air deliverable units.

Vietnam: We were Soldiers

WW2: The Longest Day

American Revolution: The Patriot

Korea: Pork Chop Hill

Scottish Fight for Independence: Braveheart

You didn't ask, but my all time favorite war series (WW2 historical story type, not purely historical) is Band of Brothers. For historical WW2 series I can't pick between World at War and Victory at Sea.

Edit: I forgot 12:00 High and Objective Burma.

Where Eagles Dare

Apocalypse Now

You guys have better memories than I do, or, you've done a lot of research. These were just off the top of my head, according to how much I enjoyed watching them.

I also enjoyed the RVN sequence in Forrest Gump.

Oh, and also The Guns of Navarone.

Many but not all of mine have already been mentioned - in no particular order:

Dam Busters
A Bridge Too Far
Bridge on the River Kwai
The Longest Day
The Great Escape
Hornet's Nest
Dirty Dozen
Guns of Navarone
Force 10 From Navarone
Where Eagles Dare (love the Allistair McLean books to movies)

But I also thoroughly enjoy The Battle of Britain -- and still watch it frequently.

I will add one other that isn't really a war movie per-se -- but I think it falls within the bounds of what we are talking about -- Dr. Strangelove -- the scenes with Peter Sellers and George C. Scott in the war room are classic.

Probably others as well -- I just can't recall them all at this point in time.

Nothing better than the house to oneself and a good old war movie on to enjoy. The better half was out of town when Band of Brothers came out on DVD, I bought the set and for the next two evenings I had the place to myself and watched the entire series.

So many favorites in the gendre hard to list but let's just say I have seen and like many.
Good shaving,

Basically, all of the above, but I'll add the Military Channel.

I work with a guy that recently joined the Army Reserve. One day he told me he had a twinge of regret and wished he had joined the Naval Reserve so he could do what I did when I was in the Navy. I was a gunner on PBR's in the Mekong and used a mini gun and M60 extensively. We specialized in the insertion and extraction of SEAL Teams. I looked at him and said "Are you fuc.... nuts?!!"

David
