Bow Ties - A New AD for Me
As is the case with my remarkably striking resemblance to Endeavor .....maskaggs wrote:...
It's always interesting to see what people look like after associating them with an online username. I can assure everyone I look exactly like Churchill, all the time. I don't leave the bedroom without a bowler and a cigar.
.... with the exception of my recent wardrobe additions of bow ties.
I haven't seen them mentioned here but, after days of visiting every local upscale department and men's store and seeing nothing that didn't look cheap, I bought from Beau Ties Ltd of Vermont (http://www.beautiesltd.com/). I bought two ties (the Blenheim [think Churchill] and the Philbin) and a pocket square. I wore the Philbin to my neice's wedding last week and received a lot of positive comment. Of course i was the only one wearing a bowtie in a sea of long ties.
BTW, I paid about the same price I would have paid for cheaper appearing items in the bricks and mortar stores.

Detroit - You wouldn't last a week here.

I've only worn bow ties now for a long time, since adolescence. I think they look better on me, and it's sort of become a distinguishing dress feature with colleagues, who get disappointed if I don't wear one.
Most of my ties are by Carrot & Gibbs: http://greatbows.com/
I have other brands, but it seems the ones I like are by them.

Here is a source I have bought several bow ties from. They have a huge number of choices, periodic sales, and sometimes pre-packs with 3 or 4 ties sold together, a great way to build your collection.

As a result of this forum, one of my Christmas gifts was a gift certificate for one of the online sites. I haven't used it yet, but as soon as I can get focused I'll place the order. I think I should visit one of the local dept stores and grab one so I can begin to learn how to tie one.

Surely not. No doubt he meant that you hadn't got egg on your bow tie.
Dear god, who knows about getting egg on your tie anyway, these days? Once upon a time, children, people ate a thing called a boiled egg for breakfast, and the lovely gooey, runny yellow yolk of the egg would happily drip off your egg spoon (smaller than a teaspoon, but larger than a coffee spoon) onto your tie. It used to be the kind of thing that interviewers looked for when considering you for a job, so it was rather important to avoid!

I lovw BTs and now own a half a dozen. I wear them periodically -- just to turn things on the edge at work, etc. I love the comments I get about tying one and how hard it must be. Once someone even commented that they bet I used those old-fashioned razors that can kill people ...... well, you can imagine what my answer was to that.
Something kind of like that, indeed.maskaggs wrote:A stone cold stare, a terse "Yes," and a sudden departure?jww wrote:Once someone even commented that they bet I used those old-fashioned razors that can kill people ...... well, you can imagine what my answer was to that.
