Rain hats???
Re: Rain hats???
For me it's a cold, wet weather garment and for that purpose excels.

+1 --- Barbours are perfect for the UK winter weather for sure. Not so great hear because of how different our weather is. Still the best coat for what they are intended for.Squire wrote:For me it's a cold, wet weather garment and for that purpose excels.
Now --- a GoreTex shell is pretty tough to beat in active/technical situations.

I have yet to own an even mediocre or simply "meh" Tilley product.Squire wrote:Tilly is well known for taking a long term approach.
I wanted to get one of their flat caps for winter to go with my collection of a few that I have picked up over the years ...... however, they have reportedly altered the basic design and it doesn't quite perform as it used to, with the ear flaps bunching up and sticking out. Hmmm .... I'll have to drag myself into the store in Toronto on one of my trips to check it out in person.
Re: Rain hats???
Don't know if it's still their policy but in the past if you wore out a Tilley hat they would replace it for free and offer their congratulations.

Yup -- indeed it is. Tilley & LL Bean are synonymous with customer service.Squire wrote:Don't know if it's still their policy but in the past if you wore out a Tilley hat they would replace it for free and offer their congratulations.

Love my Tilley. Use it for beach, lake, yard work
Re: Rain hats???
This sounds like a perfect gift suggestion for guys who wear hats. Especially this brand.

Tilleys work for anyone --- whether you wear hats or not.brothers wrote:This sounds like a perfect gift suggestion for guys who wear hats. ...
Re: Rain hats???
Well, I'm sure that's true! But if the recipient doesn't like wearing a hat, this would be an expensive white elephant.

I live in Canada, and a Canadian now, but I'm not a fan of Tilley hats or clothing; too pricey for what you get. I have one of the original models of the Tilley hat, which I bought nearly 30 years ago. It's a nice, functional hat decently styled (unlike most of their current hats) and reasonably priced at the time, but a bit too heavy. I've also owned Tilley shirts and trousers, but found them uncomfortable and pricey for what you get; sent them to a new home thanks to the Sally Ann. It pains me not to be a supporter of Tilley, because it is all-Canadian, but I have to call a spade a spade

I look really dorky in a brimmed hat, other than a cowboy hat. I do have my grandfather's Stetson dress hat (ca: '40's - '50's -- church, weddings, funerals, etc.) in the original box. Back to the subject, a "rain" hat is virtually unknown here. Probably because it rains so seldom. A baseball cap or water repellent hoodie is a more practical solution. It's a context/regional thing.
