In the spirit of being good neighbors perhaps we should tell them to just unplug it then plug it back in.

Any actual evidence that North Korea was responsible for hacking Sony?

The alphabet soup agency that has determined it probably will be less than forthcoming with any evidence since that can clue in the folks one doesn't want to know the techniques. It's counterproductive to provide information of any sort to the other side.

I told my wife we will go see the movie, along with everybody else. Why? Because we can.

What if it was just a marketing scheme?

If it was marketing, I bet it was effective for many Americans. That was one of the first things I thought of, but it makes no sense that Sony would destroy their own computer network to push a film. Heck, in my opinion not a very attractive film at that. I didn't plan to watch it before this and certainly don't plan to now; not even on Netflix.

But if I watch it, will I get a better shave?

I'm sure it will be a dreadful movie from my point of view. I don't even know who or what Seth Rogen is and I can't be bothered to go to IMDB to find out. It isn't inconceivable that the whole hack is Sony's doing - they get super publicity for what sounds like an entirely forgettable movie, and the 'stolen' e-mails help to keep uppity people like Angelina Jolie in line. I'm no conspiracy theorist at all, but etc etc.

It could have been an elaborate illusion, but as you point out, the whole thing is stupid. Let's see, we have this dumb "B" movie that'll disappear as soon as it comes out. You have a bunch of idiotic celebrities trashing each other, and some no name executives supposedly exchanging inane insults through email. Let's see, what did I forget to list? That's all I saw. Somebody hacked into some corporate servers or something? That's nothing new is it? What did they steal? Gossip? No financial data, or proprietary trade secrets, as far as we know. If someone was going to the trouble to break in, wouldn't it be for personal gain? If not, why even conceive the plan? Publicity! If NK did it, it just reinforces everyone's opinion of the paranoid dictatorial insanity those innocent hapless citizens are living in fear of.

He's a "what," Chris.

As to who was responsible for the N. Korean outage, as long as Kim was deprived of his porn channels for a while, I suppose the point was made.

BTW, just to prove what a total cluster **** this was for Sony, they've released the movie to various sites like Google so folks can pay a few bucks and rent the movie. Only, some sites didn't secure the download and people have access to the URL so they can download and keep it for free. Amazing.
