Very nice smoke, although with some burn issues, and got quite strong towards the end - takes some getting used for me!

Great looking cigar, David. I very much like the Partagas cigars from the Dominican Republic although I realize they are vastly different from the original Cuban cigars. Maybe some day I'll be able to do a direct comparison. One can only hope.

Partagas 898 is one of the classics.

A few days ago my son-in-law brought me my Romeo y Julieta Habano Romeo No.3 that he had been keeping for me in his humidor. I think he and I should go sit on the back porch some evening very soon. A glass of scotch sounds good with it.

The Romeo 3 is a nice cigar, Gary! I'd recommend you choose a mild and sweeter scotch.

I'll see what I can find! Might have to go with a Jack Daniel's, depending on what's in the cabinet.

Looks like I missed this thread during the warmer weather when I smoke cigars. It's great here in Southern Ontario to sit in the late afternoon and enjoy a cigar and a beverage while the sun is going down.

Since we can legally purchase Cuban cigars here in Canada, they tend to be the "go to" smokes, however, they are generally expensive. The absolute best Cuban cigar I have found (considering all factors including price) is the Partagas Serie D no 4. It is a Robusto size, ring guage 50 and around 5". These, like most Partagas cigars, are full bodied, but I find this one just a bit smoother and milder than some others. They have a consistent and even burn, and smooth draw (generally, no "plugging" or firm draw). My box of these is down to 3 remaining in one of my humidors and I will definitely buy another box when these are gone. Cost compared to most other Cuban robustos is reasonable (I think they are around $15 CDN, perhaps a bit less by the box). As a point of comparison, the Cohiba robusto will set you back around $40 apiece.

This summer, I also tried a Cohiba Behike 52, which is by FAR the most expensive cigar I have ever had (around $100). It was rich with perfect construction / draw / burn. It's difficult to justify the cost ...

This year, I "discovered" some cigars from countries other than Cuba - 2 notable brands:

Psyko 7 (tobacco from all over ... made in the Dominican R) - particularly the robusto but also some larger sizes - they were all well made and excellent smokes (even though their packaging and branding are a bit strange)
Alec Bradley Mundial - #6, 7 and 8 - robusto and larger - a tapered head and has a different look. I believe these use Nicaraguan tobacco and every single one was superb.

I only smoke cigars in the summer, so the season is just about done. If I get the chance, I'll post a few pages from my cigar notebook where I keep some of the cigar bands from smokes I have enjoyed ...

Oh, and btw, if you like a torpedo shape, you can never go wrong with a Montecristo #2 (the Cuban version ...)

Yesterday's smoke was a bloody awful Montecristo Double Edmundo - one of the worst Cubans I remember smoking. Little flavour, and the one it had was not good. Despite this, it still managed to be somewhat harsh... Only managed to smoke half of it:
