Is SMF losing its figure?

Feel free to post anything unrelated to wet shaving or men's grooming (I.e. cars, watches, pens, leather goods. You know, the finer things of life).

Is SMF losing its figure?

Post by Straight Arrow »

I don't know about the rest of you but I am putting on pre-holiday pounds. I'm down to two pairs of jeans that just barely fit.

I'm trying hard to hold steady, but I really think our bodies fight to store fat when the weather turns cooler, so a tough battle becomes all the more difficult.

Edit: Congratulations, Squire, assuming you are dropping pounds on purpose.

Ive lost about 16 lbs during the month since October 10th when my knee blew up. Im also noticing blood in my stool, and that happened before and I had a colonoscopy and they said nothing. Maybe Crohn's disease from what I have heard, which makes sense since it is an autoimmunity thing which dovetails with my psoriasis.

Sam, let's hope you don't have Crohn's Disease.

I changed diet for health reasons and lost some weight as a bonus. I had a bit of persistent belly fat that is finally all but gone. I will be off the diet for the actual holiday meals, but I will stick to it otherwise.

Over the past year and a half, I lost a net 30 pounds, but I still have the belly to burn off. It comes and goes. I want to lose another 15 or so.

I only gain weight when I hold all my razors.

Yes Jay, planned weight loss as part of a continuing life program. Dedicated dieting as well which I see as a new adventure in culinary techniques. It's all more than a bit of a bother but the results are worth the effort.

As a corollary Sam weight loss has surprisingly made my aged bearing joints perform with a freedom they haven't enjoyed in years.

Squire, is there a name for your diet? Maybe Amazon has a book about it.

I follow the Prudhomme dietary method. The famously rotund cajun chef Paul Prudhomme went on a diet and lost 130 pounds. When an interviewer asked how Paul said, "Just don't eat it".

Squire, that reminds me of an interview I saw with George Harrison's wife discussing the secret to a long marriage. She said, "You don't get divorced." And, really, in my experience, there's a lot of truth to that. In the course of a marriage, you may encounter lots of reasons not to continue, but if you truly want to stay together, you do.

Two things --- exercising in a prudent manner really helps. And, Chef Prudhomme died last month, unfortunately.

I've been fortunate enough to shed about 35 since June. My diet has been along these lines - I don't stuff my face, I eat single servings, and I run moderately. I think even the word "diet" can be dangerous. Better to just enact a series of lifestyle changes.

Yeah, I think diet is a silly word actually as it implies caloric intake is the whole answer.
