I just watched a few new episodes of ‘Vikings’. They were as gorey as ever. I’m sure there must have been more to Viking society than blood and guts. Definitely not to my taste; give me ‘Upstart Crow’ any day.

I expect rule by sword was prevalent in all societies of the time.

No doubt, but there was more to most societies at that time.

How could I have overlooked Goliath. Billy Bob Thornton as a burned out but brilliant attorney who ends up having to go up against the big bad miscreants. Maybe it'll be coming out early 2018. Presuming it's been renewed.

My son tells me he recently watched "Godless" and despite being brutal and graphic, he liked it. It's a western. I cannot offer an opinion on it because I haven't watched any of it. Maybe something for the cold winter months ahead.

Frankly I think Victorian society was a good deal more polite but as graphic tv shows go Godless is entertaining.

I've got The Crown on my list of series I want to watch. But after reading the synopsis of the series, I am wondering if someone in my situation (having absolutely no knowledge of the history of English royalty) will find it of interest. Of course I'll give it a try, but I'm hoping I don't get completely lost trying to figure out what they're talking about.

The Crown, at least so far, has got it right. A tortured and trammeled existence that one wouldn't wish upon anyone. You don't need to know much history to understand it, and I suspect some well-informed historians were used as consultants in writing the script. Even where we know there is imagination at play, the story as told is quite defensible as being as accurate as any explanation of the behind the scenes moments of modern British history. I should probably throw myself in the Tower for finding our monarch quite sexy in it.
In short, it is everything that The Royals is not.

Im struggling to find something good to (binge) watch. I just finished watching the two seasons of Brockmire (excellent) and the only two episodes of Longitude (excellent)

On the subject of episodes, I recommend a series called Episodes. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1582350/ Its one of those shows you can just sit down to watch and be entertained by 'nothingness' No politics, intrigue, murder, suspense, gore, war, police, or law: perfect! :D :D :D :D

Alone begins a new season on June 14, same day as the beginning of the world cup. Alone takes place in Mongolia this time. Just reality, nothing artificial. They either survive alone or (almost) die. Or --- they break down mentally while starving.

Godless is turning out to be a good one, just 2 episodes in. A couple of the main actors are recognizable from other long-running series.

Update re: Godless. Excellent, different, well done! Doesn't appear to be an ongoing series, more of a miniseries. I highly recommend it.
