I agree with the practice of going into the store and finding a knowledgeable sales associate who knows the answers to all of your concerns. Especially when the right fit will last decades of pure comfort and workmanship.

Last night, took back the Dan Post. the 10.5, maybe had too much heel to toe, though across the instep, it was ok. Got these Double H boots:

https://www.cavenders.com/western/cowbo ... 7IQAvD_BwE

It has like a cup on the heel, so though there is slippage, not as bad. Snug, but not tight on the instep. Much more casual. Im just wearing them around the office to break them in, but so far, they are very comfy. I can see why people that are on their feet many hours a day want a substantial shoe or boot. Lots more padding under foot for sure. Should be good for what I bought a boot in the first place for - those days when I am walking around and standing up for hours, like tailgates and football games, strolling on vacation (not hiking, but shopping with family, etc), things like that. Could get by pairing them with khakis to a dinner I guess.

These, I am thinking about also:

https://www.lucchese.com/shop/boots/carson/M1023.R4

click on the black cherry

I go back and forth with another boot. The goat boot in Luchesse I tried on was a 9D, the only maker that I could go with my dress shoe size. It felt the best of any leather-soled cowboy boot I tried on, other than a handmade pair locally that was an 11B (yes, go figure), and even then, they were probably neck and neck.

But if I had to choose one pair, don't know whether to keep the Double H or get the Luchesse. I got a tobacco pair of Chelsea ankle boots to pair with grey and khaki dress pants and they do look sharp. I have a pair of Sperry ankle Topsider boots in a lighter tan color for kicking around, but they are not so great at standing around in them, not as much arch stuff or support as the boots (I guess that is due to the higher heel height?). So if I only get one pair of cowboy boots, I can get something like some Red Wing Beckman ankle boots (Dark brown, black cherry are options) or something like a snuff suede chelsea. So its one pair of cowboy boots and one alternate for weekends, casual, khakis and jeans stuff, or two pair of cowboy boots. Decisions, Decisions

Sam, I don't know the Double H brand, but you can't beat a pair of Lucchese. I know I'm sounding like a stuck record, but I thought I'd never find a western-style boot to fit me and then I found Lucchese.

Lucchese for cowboy boots, and Allen Edmonds for dressier boots or shoes. Pricey, but undoubtedly worth it.

SELLER on eBay wanted 325 and shipping. I took a flyer and got them 100 less. Tried on a 9d goat ropers locally and they fit. Hope these do.

Sam, very nice looking boots. I do like the looks of Lucchese ropers. Let us know what they are like when you get them.

Got the Lucchesse boots today. First boot in a 9D I was able to actual slip on. Others had to go up at least to a 10D. My regular shoe size is 9D.

Image

I wanted to know what Lucchese boot it was, as it was a Cavendar's boot. Here is the response:

I was able to find two models that are quite similar to the one sold of our brand in Cavenders:
- the Zane roper from our Ready-To-Wear line https://www.lucchese.com/shop/boots/zane/N3034.C2
-and the L3084 from our Classics line (almost identical cording, different color) https://www.lucchese.com/additionalline ... ortunately, I was not able to find a model exactly like that shown in the Cavenders website, as it may be a retailer-exclusive style/color, or a discontinued model from our brand.

So, the tag on the boot says it is handmade. The cording is like the classic boot. Very, very soft leather. You know how some leathers feel stiff and others feel like tender? This is that tender feeling. Fine glove material. I have had them on 30 minutes and there is not even a snug feeling in the vamp, just a nice surrounding feeling. Least amount of heel slippage in any boot I tried on and the shaft moves and bends easily. I don't know why the seller sold them so low but I am glad. I was worried that there was something wrong with them, but the only thing I can tell is that maybe one was on the shelf and was tried on and the shaft where it meets the vamp, well maybe somehow more pliable or sinking in some, but on the foot, nothing I can see.

Glad you’re pleased, Sam. I don’t think you can get much better than Lucchese, unless it’s custom-made Lucchese!

Well, decided to revive this thread. I need a chukka. This will be for business casual all year, from summer linens to jeans to casual chinos and dress khaki pants with a polo or shirt and sweater.. Wanna stay around $200-$250 range.

I was thinking of pebble grain chukkas but for some reason, I am thinking I would wear the suede in a lighter color more often?

I am thinking of Meermin suede snuff chukkas and then Thursday Boot company Scouts (they have a Honey Suede and a Cognac). I think the lighter color might be more versatile?

Meermins are sometimes on the ebay site and could be had for about the same price ($120 or so and $35 shipping) if I am patient and I think they might look better and be better constructed? I am a US 9D and would order the 8UK in E width in the Hiro last.

Found some Cole Haan Watson chukkas in mahogany pebble grain at Dillards for $55.00,tax included. THis is what they look like

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Cole-Haan-Mens ... 2728792777

So, Pebble grain or suede? And if suede, Thursday Boot or Meermin?

or

Someone mentioned Frye Boots to me
Three I kinda like are these

the chris inside zip probably is very safe

https://www.thefryecompany.com/Chris-Inside-Zip-d-86956

Dont know how this zipper in the back would look with jeans and khakis

https://www.thefryecompany.com/wright-back-zip-d-80050

and an engineer, kinda out there for me but seen a lot of guys here with them and wonder why the attraction

Just speaking for myself, if I could get the engineer in black, and something other than suede, that would be my choice.

Pliner, these are local and buttery smooth but in person, the tan is even lighter. I guess with age they would darken

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Donald-J-Pline ... 8111!US!-1

Frye Chelsea, color is called chestnut, kinda iffy on the color

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mens-Frye-Seth ... 1438.l2649

Meermin Johdpur. Darkest brown I would own. Worried they may be too dressy but I may be overthinking it. Have not tried these on, they are Spanish made.

Well, the first pair, went back with my wife and they were sold. She liked the profile. In Memphis, we have two fine mens stores, and then the Macy's, Dillards, DSW and now a Nordstrom Rack. So I can get all the Johnston Murphy, TImberland, Ecco, Cole Haans, and then Merrell and Vasque, but much of what is posted here, I have no access to unless I get to Nashville (not much more) and then Atlanta. That is why I ask for suggestions because I have to get anything online and fit and how the lighting is can be determinative.

So, I got a pair of Frye Phillip inside zip boots. Usually $318 at the store, they were less that $100.00 with tax. Yes, made in Mexico, but much better than the stuff I can get for $100 locally. Not as dressy as say the Meermin Jodphurs, but can go with khakis and a nice shirt and sweater in winter. Not as dark as a true chocolate brown. Size was 9.5 D but that strap they added an extra hole and it helps with holding my foot in the vamp, but plenty of toe room and slight slip in the heel. As it is higher on the vamp, with pant, you don't see any bunching, which i think it pictured that way due to how the shoe was pulled at when I pulled up my pants leg.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x184 ... 125939.jpg

Maybe the Meermin Jodphur in suede will come on sale at the ebay seller.

Thanks to you I think I have found just what I want: https://www.thefryecompany.com/john-add ... er-d-86174

Now all I have to do is work on that eye-watering price. Might be a good thing they're out of stock at the present time.
On further reflection, maybe such a boot might be considered quite foppish on me.
