World Cup 2018

Am I correct that it will start on June 14th? Are there any teams that are favored etc.?

I will add my two cents to the avalanche of responses. I understand that the favorites are Brazil, France, Germany, and Spain. On a related subject, I understand that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place in USA. At the present time 17 US cities are candidates for the games 8 years from now.

It’s gone to North America, i.e. Mexico, Canada and the USA. Interesting.

They're simply the teams I root for. I'm not into this enough to make predictions.

The game between Spain and Portugal was a good one. They played hard and tied it up.

The name of the player who had a "hat trick" for Portugal was Ronaldo.

Watched the Iceland v. Argentina match. The Icelanders are a plucky lot (Viking blood perhaps) and they had a game plan which they executed wellI. I was pleased with the final result 1-1. =D>

Nice way to enjoy father's day - watching the world cup and the US Open golf tournament. Switching back and forth is no problem, considering both of them are rather slow, except during the times when someone makes a great play. :D

Germany-Sweden was a great game - fabulous ending for those of us with German blood in our veins, not so for our friends who are Swedes.

Mexico-Sweden should be a good game today, methinks.

Saturday morning. France vs. Argentina match currently underway in the round of 16. I am beginning to understand more about the game. Winner of this match advances to the quarter finals, loser goes home.

The round of 16 has been one of the best initial knock-out stages in the Word Cup in my recent memory. Poor Japan loosing on the last kick to a vastly superior, but clearly intimidated Belgium team. Today's England-Columbia hopefully will be a good one -- not that I am biased ......

Even though I am still a bit shell-shocked at the early exit of Germany, and the demise of Portugal and Spain. One has to wonder how long the host nation can ride the coat-tails of it's exuberant fans. Then there is Brazil with it's wonderfully talented but gosh-awful acting Neymar (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-cup/2 ... t-updates/) and France - two powerhouse teams that will leave their fans in shock if either leaves before they meet one another down the road a bit.

Love the World Cup, although I am not sure about the expansion to 48 teams in 2026. With only 10 games announced for Canada so far, it will be brutal to get ducats.

As of today, I understand 7 or the top 10 favorites have been eliminated.

That's the one I'm choosing as my favorite now that we've come to the final 8.
