Do-It-Yourself Corner

Post by GoTeeGuy »

I thought it'd be neat to start a thread where people could show-off their home made creations such as razor racks, brush stands, etc. I'm sure their must be a lot of ingenuity on SMF, so here's where you get to play Show & Tell. Come on all you DIY'ers (that's Do-It-Yourselfers) -- it's time to dust off your cameras and get snapping! :D

To get the ball rolling, here's my brush stand that I made from an old metal coat hanger. It still needs a good coat of paint, but that'll come in time.

Classy... why use paint? Just liberate some white-out from the office. Keep it all low-cost.

A+ effort, I can never get wire to bend that nicely.

Nice brush! I like how you even were able to put a 'Body Shop' logo on it. Very well done. :D

The zip tie at the top slides back and forth to allow different sized brushes to fit securly.

Nah don't bother we've seen brush stands. What this thread needs is a tinfoil shaving hat.

I purchased this brush from the Body Shop over 10yrs ago. I'm surprised it's actually badger hair and that it's held up for so long. They don't sell this style anymore - just some cheap boar hair brushes. I'd like to get a nice vulfix brush, but I just can't justify the cost at the moment.

BTW, excellent posts everyone!! Keep 'em coming. Who knows, maybe we can put all the pics into a SMF coffee table book!!!! :D

I had a couple of pieces of scrap wood that were leftovers from another project, so I decided I would try making a rudimentary stand for my brush, razor and butter knife (use it to scoop the cream). I'll probably make something with a more elaborate design with some hardwood, but this one is serving me fine for the time being.

It's easy. Since the brush is on the hook there, I just move my face up and down across the blade!

My daily use razors are an old ivory 7-day set. The original case is in bad shape from many decades of service.

My mother-in-law made this cloth holder for me. It works great and is hanging in my bedroom. I've been using it for a few months now and it is working well for me.

It rolls up for storage or travel.

Great going everyone. Good topic and some super ideas and photos. I will try to contribute and think of something to make this weekend. Oh!!!! I know I made a shaving brush handle. Let me see if I can find a picture of it.

I made this brush handle using a Dremel Tool and sandpaper. I got the brush blank from Sue at SCS. This brush was for her husband Dave. When Dave passed away Sue gave it to me.

It was very time consuming. I broke the first two I tried. Finally the third piece of wood didn't crack and I was able t get it shaped out correctly. After that the finishing wasn't too hard. It's a beautiful brush and it has special meaning to me because it was Dave's brush.

In the deep recesses of my twisted imagination, somehow this makes me think of you as a cat, with the way they rub their faces on things.

Sorry.

My brush stand. A simple bent stainless steel rod. Much heavier then needed but I like the look.

Here's my homemade brush holder - inspired by GoTeeGuy.

I used a plastic coated coat hanger. It's bent from 1 straight piece of wire.

The razor holder is a toothbrush holder from Bed Bath and Beyond.

Hello Jason,

Well done! Next time I'm in Bed, Bath & Beyond, I have to pick up one of those stands. Great idea.

Thanks! :)

Cheers,
