That's an interesting pic - where was it taken?

Thanks Lou.
This was taken in New Delhi.
This particular photograph is about 20 years old, but it is still a part of many Indian’s daily life.

You are shaved by a string. An elderly gentleman wraps a string around his fingers and then moves his hand over your face while he flexes his fingers. The strands of the string expand and contract as he does this, your whiskers are caught in the gaps made by the strands and ripped out when he moves his hand. The pain is extraordinary.

Not sure if its the same thing,
but one of the guys in my outfit has family in India. When he went there on leave last year he got his eyebrows "threaded". It sounds like a very similar process.

Sounds more painful than Buddy Hackett's "wax job"

The eyebrow threading that JohnP mentions is not supposed to be painful at all - but then again I have not had the direct pleasure myself.

I'm guessing if the hair pull is quick enough it should not hurt?

I have a friend in India, a business owner, who has a barber come to his home daily to shave him. It costs him about 10 cents. The barber uses a straight. Needless to say, I am jealous.

I think anyone with a sharp blade on your neck should be paid well.
