Reasons Why I Love Southern Maine ---

Post by jww »

---- and keep returning two or three times a year.

Ocean Park has been "our beach" for 20 years now -- we keep returning to the same spot on the sands with our now-adult children that we found when our youngest was just a baby of 6 months.

Nubble light may not be as popular or tourist-friendly as Portland Headlight, but, in my opinion, is more picturesque and serene in its surroundings.

Great photos, Wendell.

Did you stop by the ice cream shop by Nubble?

That town also has a great old fashioned candlepin bowling alley.

The shop was closed for the season already.

My wife has always wanted to see Maine so we took the kids this summer and I can see why you love it. Coastal Maine from Portsmouth to Bar Harbor was spectacular. We gorged on lobster rolls and ice cream. I'd go back again if it was closer but probably not in the winter. All the locals say it can be bitter.

Ray - we are fortunate enough to go three times a year -- a break for a few days in the spring, then summer for 2-3 weeks, and then my wife and I for our anniversary in the fall. It is about as wonderful a place as I can imagine.

Great shots Wendell, I'm using the lighthouse photo as a desktop background if that's OK by you.

By all means -- feel free to do so. That's why I posted the full-size photo.
