Just saw this and thought I'd ask if anyone could see the type of razor.
I was watching the 5/9 episode of "Moonlight" and saw the lead character pull out what was supposed to be a WWII-era Gillette out of his army footlocker. It appeared to be an Old type at first, but the lower part of the head doesn't look right and the lower part of the handle looked odd for a Gillette.

What type of Gillette was this?

A generation which ignores history has no past--and no future.

Looks like an old 4 piece (meaning two head pieces and two handle pieces) travel razor. The reason it looks so weird though is because the head is put together upside down.Strapped-4-Cache wrote:Just saw this and thought I'd ask if anyone could see the type of razor.

Yep. In fact, it looks like it's correctly assembled in the first shot and then assembled with the lower part of the head upside down as it goes into the bag. Interesting.HBK42581 wrote: Looks like an old 4 piece (meaning two head pieces and two handle pieces) travel razor. This is from a Japanese movie called "Floating Weeds" (Ukigusa).
A traveling kabuki play has come to town and the actors are passing out fliers while at the same time hitting on girls.
This actor finds his way to the local barbershop.
It just so happens that the barber's daughter gives str8 shaves and happens to be very pretty:
She wipes the razor on what looks to be newspaper:
Her father is either honing a blade or washing something in the corner. I still can not tell:
She continues:
The customer keeps hitting on her so she has to turn his head away to finish the shave:
And in walks the actor with his fliers:
He hits on her and she blushes, but he is just one of many who doesn't stand a chance with her and does not get the date, although she does come to the play.
It kind of reminds me of these youtube videos:

I don't think I saw any mention of this scene from The Royal Tenenbaums. A little gruesome, but not overly graphic.
The blade doesn't even look like a DE.

Yep - I thought it was a Contour at first, but on second look it's an older, fancier, more D Irving friendly one...HBK42581 wrote:Yah, looks like a single edge GEM model.Agent Splat wrote:I don't think I saw any mention of this scene from The Royal Tenenbaums. Speaking of Dumb and Dumber,How can we forget Dumb & Dumber?
A Barber was shaving Lloyd (Jim Carrey), Lloyd had moved real quick and put his hand on his neck and proceeded to squirt kechup like he was bleeding to death. The barber fainted, great movie.
John
Here they are getting pampered:
And then he gets the shave:
And then another bad movie shaving cut!
The barber faints:
The ketchup!
His buddy laughs, yet the masseuse does not find it amusing:
Anyone remember the shaving scene in The Seven Samurai, where the head Samurai guy got his topknot cut off and his head shaved so he could pose as a priest to kill a kidnapper? I never understood how symbolic the act of cutting off a topknot was until I listened to the commentary track by a Kurasawa expert. The act was really unthinkable for a Samurai.
Oooh, I forgot about this scene. Looks like a 40's style SS or an Adjustable FatBoy maybe.Danny1911 wrote:a shaving scene in A Bronx Tale

He decides at this point that he wasn't fit to be a barber! But decent for a mob killer!
Odd how often "cut throat" razors are shown in scenes where no attempt is made to shave anything or anyone. If they were called "kitten stroking" razors maybe they wouldn't pop into people's minds as weapons quite so much.
