Hungry Deer
Hungry Deer
The snow is deep and the deer are hungry. This yearling didn't notice the grain I put out for his family (and the pheasants), so he started on a rhododendron:

Believe it or not, this was taken from my dining room window. She neither knew, or if she did, she didn't care. I hope she finds the food I put out on the other side of the house. We have two does and their offspring - often yearlings and this year's fawns - who live in our garden. They don't need to worry about coyotes here in town, and it is illegal to hunt them. I have yet to see a buck come for some fun, so maybe they leave town when the urge strikes them.

Re: Hungry Deer
Great picture, Chris. When I lived on some acreage and had visiting deer, they really loved the rose hips in the winter.

Re: Hungry Deer
Hope I have fixed it. The problem with Flickr is that when you change anything the links to a photo break. All I did with this was to look at my Flickr with Lightroom instead of Aperture and it broke links to lots of pictures in lots of posts all over the place. Very irritating!
I'll try hosting this one elsewhere and see how it does:

I showed them to my wife and she asked me to send the second one to her. She now has it as background on her laptop. Thanks.

Re: Hungry Deer
I always enjoy your photos, Chris. Thanks, as always, for posting.
Re: Hungry Deer
The cold spell continues. My son and I spent three hours with a sledge hammer and shovels getting the icy snow off the back deck - must have been a couple of tons. But the frozen river has pretty patterns in the snow at -21ºC:

Friend of mine owns a condo on one of the white sugar sand beaches in Florida but doesn't stay there during the Winter. When asked why he says, "because, the Canadians are paying me too damn much money to sublet".

My neighbours across the street might be their renters. They have gone to Florida for the winter for the first time since they both retired 2 years ago, i like the four seasons myself, but admit to getting a bit tired and weary of the sub-arctic weather we can get, the past couple of winters have been actually quote decent. It's like Mother Nature saved up some bad stuff for this year.

That was before he grew it the first time. He is entirely hairy at present, with 10" ready for his second donation to the wig charity, but he has decided to wait till summer to chop it off. This is him at present:
