For posting in the forums the photo has to be resized to no more than 800 on the longest side. There are more than one resource for resizing photos. I know how I do mine, but I don't have the technical language capability to tell someone in the written word how I do it.

I opened the pic in windows paint, clicked edit, clicked resize, clicked pixels, changed the largest number (2200?) to 800. saved as...... and that was that. seemed to work :) or put another way, a 1000 times better than the first go around

Thanks gents -- I am not technically slow, but this explanation helps. I have not posted pics in oh so long a time due to my inability to get the chair-to-keyboard interface to work properly for me......

I still don't get it, but I am technically slow. Could we have a function, as The Shavenook does, to post pictures directly from my computer/iPad to SMF? I can post photos to TSN with the click of a button, no fuss, no muss, eventhough I'm quite the Luddite.

Thanks Chris. I appreciate your taking the time to explain the intricacies of posting a photo on SMF; you must have won the Monty Python 'Summarise Proust' contest at some point.

Rufus, you must post up a photo or I shall know I have wasted my time again.

BTW, you would probably make a horrible nun, or at least, I hope so!

I'm not Chris, but it looks like you didn't resize it to 800 or less on the longest side. It's gigantic.

Here is another simple way ,with no resizing needed. Post your pics to http://www.postimage.org .After they are in there ,just cut and paste the hot LINK they provide ,post it here ,or anywhere ,and when forum members click on the link they can see your pics full size.... Here's a sample: http://postimg.org/gallery/1goj84fnw/

What appears on my screen is enormous. So large that only half of the original is visible. Maybe there are some who prefer posting or trying to view mammoth photos, but just speaking for myself, it's worth the effort to resize the photos first.

This is what the whole photo looks like after it has been resized to 800 x 600 pixels. I used PostImage also. I just made sure to resize and save it first.

Thanks guys. I've figured out how to post a photo, but I don't understand this re-sizing. If I post the same photo on TSN it doesn't need to be re-sized. What am I missing when I post a photo on SMF? #-o

If you're interested, the photo I posted is one I took of the Bund in Shanghai.

I recall the previous version of sw we used for the forum re-sized pics for us automatically. This way, frankly is better, imo. ymmv.
