A year or two ago I discovered a box in the basement with many old films in it. I have scanned a few negatives and slides that looked appealing, but many remain.

I doubt any digital image format would be readable after forty years. Long live film!

Very nice pics. Chris. Those were the days. Unfortunately, all my pics. from that era are with my brother with whom I have no contact.

You might think, but I have absolutely no desire to have any form of contact.

What sort of scanner did you use?
I have a PrimeFilm 35 mm transparency/film scanner that worked like a tiny flatbed scanner, but something happened to it that makes the results look like very noisy video stills.
Most of the new budget-priced ones appear to be essentially small macro cameras with backlighting.

I've had good luck with some cheap scanners from Pacific Image - I think the last one was a 3650u. But I've been lucky enough to have some nice ones too. Konica Minolta 4500 MkI and MkII, and a Nikon 9000 which is still my backup scanner for negatives and what I would have used for mounted transparencies. The negatives here were done with either an Imacon Flextight 848 or a Hasselblad Flextight X1. I used an Epson V850 for 10x8 negatives. Scanning is an art unto itself, and one that is quickly disappearing. No new high end scanners are being made, and future film users will have to digitise using a DSLR and a film copying attachment.
