SOTN:

Kiehls Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser
Proraso Pre/Post
Proraso Red
Moss Scuttle (large)
Caswell & Massey Best Badger Brush
Merkur Futur loaded with a Merkur Blade
Kiehls Ultimate Men's After Shave Balm & Moisturizer

On the tv - Pants-off Dance-off

I, for a long time, have not been a Proraso fan. I bought the red almost 8 months ago, and had only used it a few times. However, upon hearing that the red was being discontinued, I decided to give it another try. And I'm glad I did. It must be the experience I have gained over the last year of wet shaving, because I'm no wgetting great shaves from the red. Oh, and pants-off dance-off is a must see!

Wednesday

Rooney Style 1 Small Super
1966 SS w/Feather
Bar of Savon de Marseille w/Crushed Rose Flowers
Nancy Boy Cream
Thayer's Lavender WH
Nivea Sensitive ASB
Knize Ten EDT

I saw the bar of soap sitting next to the sink, and having read about people shaving with it thought what the hell, and ran the Rooney over it 6-7 times, lathered it up in my mug, and applied to my face. Seemed a little thin (I know, it's supposed to be), so I added a bit of nancy boy. Well, I got such an amazingly close shave! Fantastic, I think I will investigate more soaps (have my eye on some Knize Ten soap).

Hello All,

Well, Day 3 of Brushless Week. Day 1 was Barbasol lilac-scented (excellent moisturizing). Day 2 was Palmolive. Today, Caldo from Italy (very slick).

Razor being used is one of my long-handled ladies' Gillettes with a Feather blade. Usual thress passes and a T&C. PSO before each pass like normal.

Shaves are excellent, albeit, a tad boring. As close as brushed shaves, but without the warm scented cream, and soft caresses of a fine badger brush.

I have found out in all my brushless shaves, a good sharp blade and good technique will give you an excellent shave with a wide variety of brushless creams.

Tomorrow is Cremo day with Molle on Friday.

A brushless week once in a while is good for the soul. I think.

Cheers,
Richard

Richard, do you spend time working the cream into the skin with your hand like you would with a brush?

Hello Richard in Canada,

Yes, I massage the cream into my beard with my hand. This is where a brush excels. And probably where brushless creams outperform brushless gels and foams. Gels and foams are just applied to the beard with no massaging.

I have used brushless gels (Neutrogena, Taylors) and foams like Proraso and Clubman, with a Feather equipped DE, and cannot achieve as a close a shave as I can with a brushless cream.

No doubt about it. A brush is superior to massaging in cream on your beard and that is why we enjoy using one.

Interesting observation, Richard. Food for thought.

Cheers,
Richard

The reason I asked was to bring up a point. Most of the Gel & Mach 3 crowd just spread it on, even if supplied with a good brushless cream, they would probably do much the same. I imagine very few would spend longer than 15-20 seconds rubbing it in, in fact I doubt most rub it in at all, just spread it quickly on top. You brought up a good point that a good shave can be had without a brush but it is nowhere near as luxurious.

Wednesday:
- Merkur HD w/Feather
- Ems Place citrus soap
- Truefitt & Hill Trafalgar cologne

I had forgotten how good this soap is since I last used it. Today is Day Five on this blade, but it rode along more smoothly than I expected. Truly, soaps give a closer shave thaan cream. My shave was so close and smooth that I put on a good, white shirt and new tie as soon as I was done with ne fear of spotting on the collar!

I already collected my stuff for the morning and I'm going to give this combination another go tomorrow.

You know, rustyblade Richard, I just want to switch to a straight 'cause it looks so damn cool -- at least, it does through your lens, anyway.
