John, Well, I have one more full bottle of the old Milk still left. After that, back to Harris's Pink Aftershave. It works very well for me also, especially in this climate.

Gordon

there are days when every single step of the shaving routine (or perhaps i should call it ritual) falls into perfect place. today was one of those days for me. even my latest record purchase, 1960's turkish psychedelic, playing in the background turned out to be most excellent...alas, moments like this are all too rare.

saturday,

tulip #3 simpson brush
truefitt & hill luxury soap
gillette rocket/feather blade
d. r. harris aftershaving milk (old formula)
taylor of old bond street #74 victorian lime cologne

Lousy end to a lousy week of shaves. I've come to the conclusion that the long, black handled adjustable can't shave worth a crap :\

Proraso Pre
Long black handled Gillette Adjustable
Shavemac 556 Finest 23mm
C&E Sandalwood Cream
Thayers Rose WH
Jason 98% Aloe Gel

Don't know what the deal is, the Fatboy gives me great shaves!

Saturday:

Gillette '58 TV Super Speed / English Wilkinson blade
Caswell-Massey 1752 Almond Shave Cream (no brush)
Old Spice Aftershave and Deodorant

Gordon, I never bother to list my brush. It's a Caswell-Massey badger with a mock ivory handle. My wife gave it to me as part of one of those razor sets that C-M sells, and it's a decent brush. Since I use it everyday, and it's not a particularly fancy brush, I never bother to mention it.

Today, though, was a brushless shave. Unlike Rob, I've never been able to lather the C-M creams all that well, so I don't bother. Frankly, they work better without a brush.

Speaking of spousal gifts, my wife gave me three (!) cakes of Caswell-Massey Verbena shave soap for Xmas. She knows I love the Verbena fragrance, you see. I'm going to see if I can get a decent lather out of those damn things by putting a little glycerine on my brush. Wish me luck. I'll need it.

Bob, Ah, okay, I see. I guess I hadn't noticed specifically before that you didn't list it. Good luck with that C-M soap; I agree, you'll need it ( chuckle ).

Hello Richard in Canada,

I just couldn't stand looking at your elegant Mitchell's soap jar and hearing about the virtues of the Wool Fat shave soap any longer.

So I ordered the Mitchell's jar w/shave puck and an extra puck of Wool Fat shave soap from Carbolic Soaps in the UK.

Best price around and they ship to the USA. Should have it next week probably. Looking forward to it :)!

Cheers,
Richard in Texas

Richard, glad I could help out in your decision, you won't be disappointed!

Saturday night:

Vulfix 2233
Taylor Rose shaving cream
Gillette Tech
Feather blade
Witch hazel
C&E Sienna ASB

Today was my first shave with the Tech razor, and I think its gentle shave was a good match with the Feather blade.

Edit: Spelling.

Today I felt like experimenting with some lemon-lime soaps and creams. I lathered with QED Lime soap (using their stick) and got a great lather and very smooth shave (with the grain). I decided to try a second pass against the grain with Lemon Fresh Palmolive shave cream. The lather looked good, but the shaving experience was poor: insufficient lubricity and a touch of skin reaction. The ATG pass produced a couple of small weepers and a shave that was not close enough. I should have stayed with the excellent QED soap...
I used my slim Gillette adjustable, Feather blade, custom Silvertip brush made by Scott Meyer.
Aftershave balm by Ferragamo (nice!)
