The Rooney Finest is as great a performing brush as everyone says, BUT, it just smells terrible, like a wet skunk.

Nice brush. Yeah, the Finest do stink, and they stink for a while. Probably about 10 straight days of use to get rid of the stench which is pretty high. Well worth it though. I don't know what those white badgers get up to while alive, but they sure stink.

P.S. - I know that the badgers aren't "white" as in albinos, you know what I mean.

ISD cross-post

Thursday:

Super Speed Gillette Razor
Swedish Gillette Blade
Sandalwood C-M Shave Cream
Sandalwaod C-M Cologne (Tricorn, actually)

Sorry for the lameness of my setup. It was the best I could do while groggy. I was going to use some Skin Food, but the thought of mixing the lime with the sandalwood was unappealing. I see Bruno went for it. You're a better man than me, Bruno.

Sal, it WAS the old formula A/S milk. Everything else starts off ok, but then it goes downhill from there.

Sal, Finding an A/S product that's 'right' is often the most difficult part of putting together a righteous shaving kit. That's why I was so furious when they totally altered the Harris's A/S Milk. It had taken me years to find the 'right stuff' for me.
Interesting about those Rooney Finests; mine had almost no scent when I got it. Of course, it's one of those 'Olde Apothacary' versions, so maybe that's the difference.
Thursday-----same as yesterday

Gillette TV Superspeed & Tesco blade
D R Harris's H3 Best Badger
Coate's Lavender shave cream
D R Harris's Pink A/S
Trumpers Spanish Leather

Merkur Futur Razor (set to 1.5)
Feather Blade
Merkur Best Badger Brush
Proraso Green Shave Cream (First Use)
Floris Elite EdT

First time with the Proraso. Easily whipped up a lather in the bowl. Went on face well but seemed slightly less lubricating than the English creams. Menthol effect kicked in on 4th pass when the lather was cooler and sucked the heat out of my face

SOTD Rating 9/10 ...the shocking menthol effect at the end was fun...

rooney 1.1 finest
pre de provence soap

Richard, DR Harris, eh? i was afraid you might say that. i can't believe i never got to try it! from what i have read and the way my skin is i have this lingering feeling it would have been the one for me as well.

Gordon, your disappointment is understandable and imo, VERY justified.

Friday:

Fantastic BBS shave

Merkur HD (first time) - Feather 5th day
C&E EJ best badger
williams to prime brush then prorasso
Thayers lemon WH
Prorasso ASB

------------------------

On a side note, today was my first go with the Merkur HD, and I wish I would have gotten it as my first razor. I have tried a handful of vintage razors and the only thing that comes near as close for my beard is the gillette adjustable. It truly is a great razor.
