Yes, me too. This time I think I'll stick with it for a good long while. It combines building the lather with prepping my face: cuts a good 5 minutes off my shave.

Speaking of sticking with things:

Fidelity is all well and good, but the SotD photos get repetitious: sorry!

Very nice Glenn. I need to spend those extra five minutes with my camera. You guys make me a little jealous with these pictures.

Mistake Of The Day

I was so impressed with the results I got last week with my Gillette Slim that I dug up… gasp… my other adjustable: the Vision 2000. That’s official, I hate Merkur.

I did not even finish the first pass and grabbed my 1968 Wilkinson. All went fairly well until the pass ATG on the most problematic moustache area. That’s official: I prefer the Gillette Slim. However, the Wilkinson will remain on the stand. It’s just too beautiful.

The Feather AC was reliable as always. Damn, I want the non-folding one.

I took my Ever-Ready for its maiden voyage today with a new Gem single-edge blade. (A huge thank you to Alfred (Barbarosa) for his most generous lot of freebie razors, which included the Ever-Ready and several others.) Wow! This is an aggressive shaver that requires a light touch and stretching of the skin. I got supreme closeness in two passes, though with a little razor burn, which explains the heavy-duty L'Oreal balm. The EDT sample is Penhaligon's Hammam Bouquet, which so far isn't knocking my socks off. It's unmistakably high quality, but not much my style. I like clean florals, and I like the "dusty" Trumper signature note, but apparently not dusty florals -- a bit too old timey.

Regards,
Doug

PS: The marble is my son, Ben's, contribution.

Saturday,

Kent BK8
Coates Rose
Merkur Slant w/ Feather
TGR A/S Balm
GFT Spanish Leather

First time with the BK8 (thanks Doug.) Wonderfully decadent brush. It will make a fantastic replacement for my retired Shavemaster. Those of you who think the BK8 is too big are whack :D

Also, used the Slant with a Swede yesterday and did pretty well. Used the Feather today for comparison and there is no question, the Feather is the superior blade in this razor. Man, does it cut smooth.

Saturday Shave

Gillette 1949 SS
Proraso preshave, lathered soap and ASB

The odd part-

Dollar General Super Stainless DE Blades
(Package gives no indication of who makes them, just says "Compare to Schick Double Edge Blades".

Brush - NOS Ever-Ready C-40, Boars Hair I would guess.
The short stiff brush really whipped up a fine lather, a little prickly on the face but I liked the lather it made.

Blades - pretty smooth shave, 2 passes, 3 on my neck. I hesitate to say they are comparable to anything else until I've done a few more shaves.

I would say the shave was an 7 out of ten.
