Saturday Night:

Gillette NEW razor
Wilkinson Sword (UK-made) blade
Shavemac 177 brush (23mm knot, silvertip)
QEDman Fresh Lime shaving soap
Thayer's Original Witch Hazel (all the conditioning I need :) )

This was my first time using the razor that I just bought from Steve/jslfl. I thought I recalled reading somewhere that the NEW razor was a very mild shaver, so I loaded it with a UK-Wilkinson blade and used the fast-cutting QEDman soap. I found this razor to be quite aggressive, and I nicked myself in a couple of places  (haven't had to use the styptic pencil in a long time :? ). I think this razor takes a slightly different angle than my later Gillettes.

At any rate, now that the blood is stanched and the skin is properly conditioned, I find that this is the closest shave I have ever gotten - and I only have a little mild irritation. So, there is definitely potential here.

Next time, I'll try this razor with a Dorco blade and possibly with a more protective soap.

Saturday (a little late)

Kent BK4
Gillette Super Speed
Crystal Blade
JM Fraser's shave cream
Thayer's original Witch Hazel
Booster Polar Ice A/S x2

First time with Frasers and Polar Ice.

The Frasers is nice. Really nice actually. Great thick, rich, cushioning lather.

The Polar Ice, though, was just not what I was expecting. It is very medicinal smelling, and very watery and runny. I felt the need to re-apply, in order to ensure I fed my freshly shaven skin enough. The end result was good, but I don't know if the watery texture and medicinal scent are going to do it for me.
Cheers,
Rob

Rob, Well to each his own, but it's that very 'watery' consistancy that made me have an interest in trying it.....wondering if it might work at least similiarly to the Harris's Pink.
Sunday:

Gillette original Superspeed
Swedish Gillette blade
T&H/Vulfix 2234 Super
Taylors Rose shaving cream ( old version )
D R Harris's Pink A/S
Trumpers Bay Rum

Trumper Oxford Blue
Dovo Astrale Razor
Rooney Finest 1,3
Booster Polar Ice A/S

Sunday:

Crabtree & Evelyn Best Badger
Trumpers Almond Hard Shave Soap
Gillette 40s Aristorocket w/ Tesco blade
Trumpers Coral Skin Food

I could live with only hard soaps, especially if the Harris soaps are better than Trumpers, like everyone says.

Almost, except I used a Rooney Finest 1,1 and Floris Santal. Just goes to show you can't plan this stuff, things change and you have to roll with it.

Richard, how'd you like the 1,1? it's the only brush i own and i love it. also, what happened that forced you to go from a 3,1 to a 1,1 and then replace GFT with Floris?

I like my finest 1,3 better. It has just the right amount of loft. I find the 1,1 just a tad too stiff and I end up with lather all over the handle. Still a nice brush though.

What made me change the SOTD? Who knows, its just what came out of the shave cupboard at the time. The EDT changed because my shower/shave ended up being so late in the day I didn't want to "waste" my Wild Fern. I have lots of Santal though!
