SOTD - Durham DE + Feather Pro-Guard

Post by tjggriffin »

Today:

Pre: 1) Sharps Scrub
2) Hot water
3) Feather Herbal Preshave

Razor: Durham Duplex DE Open Comb
Blade: 2x Feather Pro-Guard
Cream: Trader Joe's Honey Mango

After: 1) Proraso - wait 2-3 mins
2) Feather Kanwa Aftershave - Ooh! Like ice!
3) Finally: Geo. F. Trumper Indies Lime Face Food

Comments: The Durham is about 1.5x the width of a normal
DE, so I didn't need to cut down the Pro-Guards. This was
my first shave with the Durham. The comb did nothing to
to guard my face. Not only are 2 Pro-Guards wider than
a Durham blade, but since it's two blades, not one, under
pressure from the cover, the edges lifted slightly. Nearly
naked blade!

My hand was steady, and I used as zero pressure or
less. I got no new nicks, but I did reopen some old
ones.

I did one pass with, and a touch up across and against
the grain. It was the closest shave I've ever had. Ever.
I imagine it approaches straight shave (still on my todo
list).

History: I read some old messages (and an entry at
shaveblog) about using Pro-Guards in the Schick. I got
an Adjustible and gave it a go. After mangling one blade,
I got one cut down to size. I used Trufitt Ultimate and
got the closest shave until today. Then yesterday on my
home from work, the Durham popped into my head and
I tried to fit it with the Pro-Guards. I found that using
two blades, one on each side, tightened the grip on the
blades, meaning less chance of slipping.

I use a brush on the weekends when I have more time.
During the week I use TJ's or Cremo in the shower.

I can't wiat to try this with a brush!

Tomorrow, I'll go back to a DE with a Dorco blade.

Enough.
