Cliff, I find myself tempted to try a GEM razor, but I still haven't experienced all my Gillettes, and I have yet to try my Schick Injectors!
A doubt I have (without having tried a GEM) is that the large head might be harder to maneuver over the changing contours of the throat.
I hope your next GEM shave comes together with perfection!

Friday:
Gillette '58 TV Super Speed / Gillette "Swede"
Palmolive Lather Shave Cream (red label)
D.R. Harris Arlington Aftershave Milk (old formula)
D.R. Harris Arlington Cologne
Every once in awhile, I pull out the Palmolive. It's a pretty good performer, for a cut-rate price. At least it was, until they discontinued it in the U.S.
I'm down to a half-bottle of the old aftershave milk. I gave my only other bottle to my father, for Fathers' Day, thereby proving my unconditional love. I guess I'll be switching to Harris' Pink aftershave before the summer's gone. If they still make it, that is.

I found it quite the opposite. The Gem feels like it has a "smaller" head, in the sense that the "lump" which a Gillette presents above the blade (for example, the curved dome of the barn doors) is thicker and more obstructive. Therefore it's the Gillette which interferes more with getting the blade right to the secluded spots, such as immediately under my nostrils, or behind the curve of the Adam's apple, while the Gem can get the edge anywhere.CMur12 wrote:A doubt I have (without having tried a GEM) is that the large head might be harder to maneuver over the changing contours of the throat.
Haven't shaved yet today. Shave of the day will be ... what? Oooh, so many options. I'm sensing a Gem coming on.

I usually don't post a SOTD but the shaving gods shown down on me this morning with the best shave I'd had in a long time:
Neutrogena Razor Defense Daily Scrub
Coates Tea Tree (may it RIP; the tub is allllllllmost empty...)
Shavemac VLB
Merkur Progress/Isreali blade
Proraso ASB
Awsomely close, comfortable shave. I'm still faceturbating over it.
