Gordon,

I think the difference is in the Blades. Ever since I switched to the English Wilkinson & Swedish Gillette, there has not been any irritation. Feather seems to give the Most and Derbys after Shave 2 for me

Saturday I used Proraso "soap" and ASB, with a Feather in my Merkur HD & the SMF II brush. Unsurprisingly, a close, gentle shave.

Friday & Thursday I used some samples of Floris Elite shaving cream & balm, with the same gear as above. I was very favorably impressed, with one caveat: the scent was pretty strong (and not my favorite) as I shaved, but trailed off to near nothigng very shortly thereafter. But my face was smooth and not irritated, unusualy good.

Saturday:

Kent BK4
D.R. Harris Marlborough soap
Merkur HD
Israeli no-name blade (#2)
D.R. Harris Pink After Shave

Yes, this is the same stuff I've been using pretty much all week. It's a great combination (although I'm down to my last Israeli).

Saturday:

Gillette '58 TV Super Speed
Gillette "Swede"
Coates Lime Shave Cream
D.R. Harris Arlington Aftershave Milk (old form.)

I'd be hard-pressed to find a better lineup than this, especially in the summer. The very sad part is that, with the exception of the Gillette blades, none of these products is available anymore.

Henckel's Friodur 7/8"
Erasmic Shave Cream
Rooney F1,3
Polar Ice

Floris 89.

There is something very gratifying being loyal to one razor. The fact it is a straight razor enhances this feeling even more.

If I was giving you guilt I would be making a little voice saying "Come on, you know you want to use your Feather....you can't resist me and my sharpness. You know I shave EVERy bit of stubble off that the Henckels misses ;) "

Hate me if you want :)

Sunday,

Simpson T3
Trumper Violet
Merkur LHC w/ Swede (1)
DR Harris Pink A/S
C-M No.6 EdC

Attending my Goddaughters baptism today. Wracked my brain trying to decide on the most appropriate fragrance. Citrus is the ticket this time of year unless the occasion is very dressy. I will be wearing a suit but it is a daytime affair involving babies. Ye olde No.6 ending up getting the nod.

Lazy today, I just used whatever was in my mug from yesterday:
- Merkur HD w/Feather blade
- SMF II brush
- Proraso "soap"

...And nothing else: I was late for church so I skipped any balm, and never really needed it later. It's dry but warm here today in northern Rhode Island, and I spent the morning at a church picnic feeling good and looking sharp in a broad-brimmed Akubra hat.

A funny thing about this part of the state: a lot of the people here are descended from French Canadian immigrants who arrived during the Industrial Revolution, and I heard a couple of conversations in [probably old-fashioned] French as I walked among the picnic tables. :7)
